To run daily reports in Slack, schedule a recurring prompt in a focused team channel, then choose how people should submit updates: a thread for lightweight reporting, a Slack List for structured entries and status tracking, or a Canvas workflow for document-style reports. A prompt reminds people; it does not collect, validate, or guarantee a response by itself.
Choose a reporting format before you build
Pick the simplest format that gives your team a useful view of the work. Slack supports a recurring channel message for a visible prompt, a form connected to a List for structured entries, and a form that creates a Canvas copy for document-style submissions.

- Use a channel prompt when updates can be brief and the team mainly needs a shared place to post them.
- Use a List when entries need consistent fields, assignment, status tracking, or follow-up.
- Use a Canvas workflow when each submission should become a formatted document. Slack’s documented form-to-Canvas-copy automation is limited to Enterprise plans.
Decide whether the final view should be a conversation, a task list, or a document, and check which workflow features your plan and workspace administrators allow. Slack’s Workflow Builder guide and feature-specific guides describe the available options.

- Choose a channel. Use a team channel where updates will be easy to find and relevant to the people expected to contribute.
- Open the workflow templates. In Slack’s sidebar, go to Agents & tools and open workflow templates. Some workspaces label this area Automations. Select Send a scheduled message. Follow Slack’s scheduled-message workflow instructions.
- Set the schedule. Choose a start date, time, and recurrence frequency. Confirm the workspace time zone and a practical reporting time with the team; Slack does not prescribe one universal time.
- Choose the destination and write the prompt. Keep the request short, state the deadline, and use the same response format each day. For example:
Daily update — [date] Completed: Working on today: Blocked by / need help with: Next milestone: - Tell people where to respond. Ask contributors to reply in the message thread or use the agreed List or Canvas process. That convention is what makes the responses predictable; the scheduled message itself is only a prompt.
- Publish and confirm ownership. Check who can manage or edit the workflow so the team knows who can adjust the schedule or wording.
Collect structured updates in a Slack List
A List is a better fit than a thread when each report needs repeatable fields or someone must track progress after submission. Connect a workflow form to a List so responses become entries. Members can prioritize entries, share status updates, and discuss an item in its thread. List automations can notify a channel when fields change and send due-date notifications or summaries. Slack identifies List automations as available on paid plans; see its guide to List automations.

Unlike with our competitors, these pages won’t bleed onto the next one, even if you write with a permanent marker.
- Sturdy Backing for Writing Anywhere: Our notepad is made with a thick backing that provides a sturdy surface for writing anytime, so you can take it on the go and never miss an important task again. Whether you're at home, in the office, or on the go, you'll always be able to capture your thoughts and stay on top of your daily routine.
- Easy to Tear Off Pages: The easy to tear off, undated pages make it simple to share your lists with others or start each day with a fresh page. You'll love the convenience of being able to remove yesterday's tasks and start with a clean slate, allowing you to focus on what really matters.
For a daily reporting list, choose fields that support a decision or follow-up—for example, the reporting date, completed work, today’s priority, blocker, and owner. Avoid collecting detail no one will review. If reports generate action items, use assignees and due dates so follow-up is visible rather than buried in a stream of updates.
Use a Canvas when each report needs a document view
Slack also documents a workflow where variables in a Canvas become form questions; when a member submits the form, Slack uses the answers to create a new Canvas copy. This is useful when the final report should follow a document-like template rather than appear as a conversation or List entry. The specific Canvas form-response automation described by Slack is Enterprise-plan only. See Slack’s Canvas workflow instructions.

Choose between a scheduled message and a reminder
For a simple nudge, Slack supports the /remind [#channel] [what] [when] command. Slack says channel reminders work best for simple team reminders and recommends a scheduled-message workflow for more complex channel messages. A scheduled workflow is therefore the more suitable choice when the prompt needs a consistent report format or a recurring channel post; a reminder can be enough when the message is brief. See Slack’s reminder instructions.
If reports include action items, List automations can notify assignees about upcoming or overdue tasks and post a due-date summary to a channel. The setup allows a day and time to be chosen and the due-date window to be adjusted. A reminder or notification still does not establish whether a report is complete or whether a person has responded; that depends on your team’s submission and follow-up process.

- ORGANIZED | Managing your time is the key to managing your career. Keep your priorities for the week front-and-center so you remember your appointments, tasks, and goals.
- FOCUSED | A desk calendar is no good if you have to remember to look at it. Notsu's Weekly Planning Pad sits snugly alongside your keyboard, so it is always in view.
- CLEAR | A desk full of sticky notes and “URGENT” phone messages adds visual noise to your workplace and makes you look untidy. De-clutter your desk by keeping your schedule and notes in one place.
- FRESH | New week, new goals. Tear off last week's notes and challenges so you start every Monday visualizing where you want to be by Friday afternoon. Store the old pages in a file folder to build a detailed work diary that will help you remember significant accomplishments when it's time for your performance review.
- BALANCED | Our clean, modern design gives you the helpful organizing structure you need without adding visual clutter or restrictive hour-by-hour timeframes.
Check plan access and workspace permissions
Slack says Workflow Builder is available on paid plans by default, but owners or admins can restrict access. Its workflow creation guidance likewise notes the default paid-plan access and the ability to limit it. Before designing a process around a feature, check the workspace’s current plan and ask an owner or admin whether your role can create and manage workflows. See Slack’s Workflow Builder overview and workflow access settings.
Availability is feature-specific: Slack describes List automations as available on paid plans, while the documented Canvas form-to-copy automation requires Enterprise. Admin settings can also affect access. Do not assume that every reporting option is included or enabled for every workspace.
