On desktop, go to Menu → Settings → Search and choose Google. On Android, open the search-engine menu from the address bar, then go to Search settings → Default search engine and choose Google if it is listed.
Change the default in Firefox on desktop
- Open the Firefox menu and select Settings. In some contexts, this area may be called Preferences.
- Select Search in the left pane.
- Under Default search engine, choose Google from the dropdown. Mozilla’s Manage Firefox search settings help explains this setting.
- Enter a search in the address bar to check that Firefox uses the selected engine.
Change the default in Firefox for Android
- Tap the search-engine icon in the address bar.
- Tap Search settings.
- Tap Default search engine.
- Select Google if it appears in the list. Mozilla documents this route in its Firefox for Android search engine help.
Use Google for one search without changing the default
If you only want Google for a single search, choose it from the search-engine menu for that search. That choice does not change the persistent default for later searches, as Mozilla explains in its Android search engine instructions.

If Google is missing from the list
Available built-in search engines can vary by region and language. Mozilla’s instructions for adding or removing search engines describe custom-engine controls; the exact options can depend on Firefox version and platform.

Android custom engine
On Android, open Search settings → Default search engine → Add search engine if that control is available. Mozilla gives this Google search URL as an example: https://www.google.com/search?q=%s. The %s represents the place where Firefox inserts the search query.

Desktop custom engine
On desktop, check Firefox’s Search settings for a way to add a custom engine. The available controls vary by Firefox version. Use Mozilla’s custom search engine guidance for the applicable steps.

Review installed extensions. Mozilla notes that an extension can set a new default search engine; remove or adjust the extension if it is responsible, then select Google again in Firefox’s Search settings.
