In Python Playwright, locate the consent control the page actually shows, click the intended option, and take the screenshot only after that interaction. There is no universal cookie-banner selector: button wording and markup vary by site. The example below uses “Accept all” only as a replaceable example, not a selector that works everywhere.
Click the consent option before capturing
Use a user-facing locator when the consent interface exposes an accessible button. Replace the example URL and accessible name with values verified on your target page. If the banner offers choices such as reject or settings, choose the option that matches the consent state you intend to set.

Before relying on a locator, inspect the rendered page and confirm it is unique and targets the intended control. If the site provides a stable test identifier or label, that explicit contract may be a better fit.
Handle banners that may not appear
If consent appears only for some visits, make the click conditional on the actual UI state instead of assuming the button is always present. A broad selector can match a hidden element or the wrong button; when the page provides a distinctive dialog or container, scope the locator to it.

Playwright’s v1.42 release notes show page.add_locator_handler() used with a cookie-dialog heading and an “Accept all” button. That is a documented historical example, not evidence that every site uses that wording. Check the API supported by your installed Playwright version before using a locator handler.
Account for frames and browser dialogs
Banner inside an iframe
Inspect the page to confirm the banner is inside a frame, then use a frame-scoped locator. Replace the iframe selector and button name with the target site’s actual values:

A browser JavaScript dialog is not an HTML cookie banner. Handle it through Playwright’s dialog event handling rather than searching for an HTML button. Consult Playwright’s dialog guide for the current Python API and choose the appropriate dialog action for the page.

Choose the screenshot scope and options
Take the screenshot after the consent interaction. full_page=True captures the full scrollable page; omit it for a viewport screenshot. Playwright can also return screenshot bytes for in-memory processing and supports screenshots of individual elements.

Screenshot options such as disabling animations, masking elements, or applying a stylesheet affect the captured image; they do not dismiss consent or prove that a consent choice was recorded. Hiding an overlay with injected CSS is only a visual alteration. When the purpose is to set consent state, prefer interacting with the site’s actual consent control.
Check persistence separately
A successful click on one page does not establish how consent persists across pages, browser contexts, or later runs. Verify the target site’s behavior. If your workflow depends on stored state, consult Playwright’s browser-context guidance and test with the target site; the correct persistence behavior is site-specific.

Troubleshoot common failures
- Locator cannot find the button: The banner may not have appeared, its accessible name may differ, or it may be inside an iframe. Inspect the rendered page, use the displayed name, and scope to the relevant frame or consent container if needed.
- More than one matching button: Scope the locator to the consent dialog or another distinctive container, then verify that it identifies the intended control.
- The click happens but the overlay remains: Confirm the control selected is the actual consent action rather than a similarly named button, and check whether the page updates asynchronously before capturing.
- The banner is absent on some runs: Treat it as conditional and interact only when the recognizable consent UI is present.
- A dialog appears but no HTML button can be located: Determine whether it is a JavaScript browser dialog and use dialog event handling rather than an HTML locator.
- The next run shows the banner again: Do not assume consent persisted. Check the site’s behavior and the browser-context state used by your workflow.

Can I hide the banner with CSS instead of clicking it?
You can alter the screenshot visually with CSS, but hiding the overlay does not set or verify consent. Use the actual consent control when the goal is to set a choice.
