Consider SensorFlow when you already collect compatible Sensors Data SDK events and want to route them into ClickHouse for SQL- and Superset-based analysis. These products address different primary jobs; treat any switch between them as a migration to validate, not a like-for-like replacement.
SensorFlow vs Matomo: event pipeline or web analytics?
| Decision | Matomo | SensorFlow |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | A web analytics application with event tracking and reporting. Matomo’s event guide and feature overview describe these capabilities. | SensorFlow describes a self-hosted ingestion path for compatible Sensors Data SDK events, stored in ClickHouse and analyzed with SQL and Apache Superset. See SensorFlow’s product materials. |
| How you collect data | Matomo documents JavaScript tracking, SDK or server-side tracking, log imports, pixel tracking, and an HTTP Tracking API. See its tracking-data guide. | Its stated compatibility scope is compatible Sensors Data SDK events. Confirm exact SDK versions and event semantics with SensorFlow before planning a migration. |
| How you analyze activity | Use built-in reports, event reports, dashboards, goals, and APIs. | Use the SQL and Superset workflow described in SensorFlow’s product materials. |
| What evidence establishes | Official documentation establishes documented features and collection routes; it does not establish performance against SensorFlow. | Vendor materials describe the intended workflow, not independent performance, cost, or reliability benchmarks. |
Can Matomo track events?
Yes. Matomo’s event guide describes tracking interactions such as clicks, video plays, downloads, and form submissions. Event tracking complements page views: a page view records that a page was visited, while an event can capture an interaction on it.

Matomo’s feature documentation lists event tracking alongside reports, dashboards, goals, ecommerce analytics, custom dimensions, segmentation, and API access. For the event data model, the Reporting API documentation describes event category and action, an optional name, and an optional numeric value. Events can be tracked through the JavaScript tracker or HTTP Tracking API.

Matomo documents several ways to collect activity: JavaScript tracking, SDK or server-side tracking, server-log imports, pixel tracking, and direct use of its HTTP Tracking API. Choose a route that fits your site or app and how it handles tracking; do not assume that adopting a different collection path preserves existing event meaning automatically.

What does SensorFlow send to ClickHouse?
SensorFlow describes its product as a self-hosted Go-to-ClickHouse pipeline for compatible Sensors Data SDK events, with SQL and Apache Superset for analysis. That scope is based on SensorFlow’s own product materials, not an independent compatibility audit. Verify the exact SDK versions, payloads, and event semantics you use before depending on the pipeline.
This is a narrower stated job than a full web analytics application: SensorFlow’s description centers on getting compatible instrumented events into ClickHouse for analysis. It does not, by itself, establish feature parity with Matomo’s reporting, goals, dashboards, or other analytics features.

Do you need built-in analytics reports or SQL access to event data?
Choose Matomo for an analytics application
Matomo fits when marketers, site owners, or product teams need familiar website analytics reports and want to examine events alongside page views, goals, campaigns, dashboards, or other documented analytics features. Its measurement guidance recommends consistent tracking methods, naming conventions, and event logic—useful foundations for reliable reports.

Evaluate SensorFlow for an event-data pipeline
SensorFlow may fit when your engineers already send compatible Sensors Data SDK events and specifically want those events in ClickHouse for SQL-oriented analysis. The team should be prepared to validate instrumentation compatibility and maintain the event definitions and downstream analysis workflow.
How do I validate a move from Sensors Data SDK events to ClickHouse?
Before directing production traffic, test representative events from the exact SDK versions in use. The following are prudent validation checks, not results of a reported benchmark or compatibility test:
- Confirm compatibility. Check that the SDK versions, event payloads, and semantics you rely on are supported by SensorFlow.
- Inspect ingestion and storage. Send representative events, then verify that they arrive and that the stored ClickHouse rows preserve the fields your analyses need.
- Compare counts and identity behavior. Check that event totals and user or device identity handling match expectations across the source and destination.
- Check data types and timing. Validate property types, timestamps, and any assumptions downstream SQL queries make about them.
- Exercise delivery failure cases. Test batching, retries, and recovery after failures so you understand what happens to delayed or unsuccessful events.
- Rebuild the analysis users need. Confirm that required reporting can be delivered through the SQL and Superset workflow, or determine whether the team still needs a separate analytics application.
What this comparison cannot establish
SensorFlow published a comparison on September 26, 2026 that characterizes Matomo as a web analytics application and SensorFlow as a narrower event-ingestion path. The article says it is not a performance benchmark; its product and license statements are vendor-authored. Check current terms in the relevant official documentation or agreement before relying on them. See SensorFlow’s materials.
The available product documentation and vendor materials do not establish a neutral performance winner, a universal total-cost comparison, or workload-specific throughput and reliability. Architecture descriptions alone are not a basis for those conclusions. Compare the actual workload and operating requirements in a proof of concept.
