The Sennheiser HD 480 PRO Plus is a wired, closed-back professional headphone for tracking, monitoring and other work where isolation is useful. The “Plus” version’s stated difference from the standard HD 480 PRO is the included travel case—not a different headphone or sound specification. Choose it if that case suits how you transport and store your gear; otherwise, the standard package includes a carrying bag.
What the HD 480 PRO Plus is designed for
Sennheiser describes the HD 480 PRO as its top-of-range closed-back headphone for studio and live work. Its intended users include producers, mixers, musicians, recording engineers, creators, front-of-house engineers and monitor engineers. The company also presents it as suitable for working on the move.

The closed-back design is intended for situations in which isolation is useful. Sennheiser specifically identifies vocal tracking in the room, monitoring, front-of-house reference use and working around other people. These are the manufacturer’s workflow recommendations, not a rule that every engineer should use a closed-back headphone for those tasks.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The practical choice is straightforward: consider the Plus if a travel case is useful for your commute, gigs or gear storage. If you do not need that case, the standard model provides the same stated headphone distinction without it.
HD 480 PRO vs HD 490 PRO: which fits your workspace?
Sennheiser contrasts the closed HD 480 PRO with the open-back HD 490 PRO. Its guidance is to consider the HD 480 PRO when isolation matters, such as tracking vocals in the same room or working around others, and the HD 490 PRO for mixing in a quiet environment. Treat this as the manufacturer’s use-case guidance rather than a universal rule: the right choice depends on your room, workflow and preference.

Sound claims and what they establish
Sennheiser says the HD 480 PRO was designed to address low-end accuracy concerns associated with closed-back headphones. The company attributes clearer low-end reproduction to a vibration-damping system intended to reduce reflections and distortion. That describes the design goal; it is not an independent measurement or a guarantee of how the headphones will sound in every setup.

Jimmy R. Landry, Sennheiser’s Category Market Manager, Music Industry, described the bass as “a lot tighter” and the low end as “super-accurate and realistic.” Those are comments from a company representative, not independent test findings.

Independent impressions are subjective. What Hi-Fi? said its supplied Plus sample was comfortable overall, while its reviewer found it difficult to get glasses to sit comfortably despite a glasses-oriented soft zone. MusicRadar described its experience as very comfortable and praised low-end detail. Neither review establishes that the fit or sound will be the same for every listener.
Comfort, glasses and long sessions
Sennheiser says comfort was a design priority. Gunnar Dirks, the company’s Senior Product Manager for professional headphones, said: “Comfort is of paramount importance when headphones are a work tool.” This is the manufacturer’s stated aim, not a guarantee that the fit will suit every head shape or session.

If you wear glasses, the available review impressions point in different directions: MusicRadar found the headphones very comfortable, while What Hi-Fi?’s reviewer had trouble getting glasses to sit comfortably. If possible, try them with your own frames and assess pressure over the length of a typical session rather than relying on a general comfort claim.
Specifications and weight: review figures differ
What Hi-Fi? lists a 38 mm dynamic driver, 130-ohm impedance and a weight of 274 g without cable. MusicRadar lists the weight as 272 g. Because these independent reviews differ on weight, the figures should not be treated as a single definitive manufacturer specification. Check Sennheiser’s current specification sheet if an exact weight is important to your setup.
