SelectorsHub is a browser extension for generating, editing, and verifying XPath, CSS, and Playwright locators while inspecting a webpage. It can help QA engineers and developers check whether a locator matches the intended element, but it does not prove that the locator will remain reliable as an application changes.
What SelectorsHub does
SelectorsHub brings locator authoring and checking into the browser. Its official product page describes support for Playwright locators, XPath, and CSS selectors. Its FAQ also names jQuery and JS Path, and describes support for Shadow DOM, nested iframes, and SVG elements.
The workflow is straightforward: inspect or select an element, generate or edit a locator, and verify it against the page. SelectorsHub provides match counts and syntax feedback, and the Chrome Web Store listing describes highlighting matched elements. That feedback helps catch a locator that matches nothing or too many elements before it goes into a test.
How to generate and verify a locator
- Install the extension from the listing for your browser. For Chrome, use the Chrome Web Store listing.
- Open the page under test and launch SelectorsHub in the browser.
- Inspect or select the target element, then review the generated locator options.
- Choose the locator syntax appropriate for your test framework. Edit it if needed, then use the tool’s verification feedback and match highlighting to check the result on the current page.
- Use the verified locator in your test and validate it in the test runner. A successful match in the inspected page is not evidence that the locator is stable across application states, content changes, or future releases.
Using SelectorsHub with Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress
The Chrome Web Store listing identifies QA engineers, test automation professionals, and web developers using Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, and other frameworks as its intended audience. SelectorsHub helps at the browser-inspection stage; the locator still needs to use syntax supported by the framework and language in your test.

For Playwright, the product describes Playwright locator generation and verification. For Selenium and Cypress, use the generated XPath or CSS only if it fits the APIs and conventions in the test code. Treat generated output as a starting point: prefer a selector tied to a meaningful, stable application attribute or accessible role when available, and check uniqueness and behavior in the real test context.
Shadow DOM, iframes, and SVG
SelectorsHub’s official materials say it handles Shadow DOM, nested iframes, and SVG elements. These cases can complicate locator work because the target may not be in the ordinary document tree or may require framework-specific frame or shadow-root handling. Verification in the extension is useful for inspecting a candidate, but confirm that your chosen automation framework can reach the element using the locator and context you plan to use.

Is SelectorsHub free? What does Pro add?
The FAQ describes a free version with basic generation and verification features. The paid Pro tier is described on the official Pro page as adding features including XPath healing and checks for dynamic XPath stability, plus additional support and updates.

Browser availability and installation
The product page lists Chrome, Edge, Opera, Firefox, and other Chromium-based browser options, while the Chrome Web Store provides a Chrome listing. Extension availability and compatibility can change, and a browser name on the product page does not guarantee that a current store listing is available for every edition. Check your browser’s own extension store before installing.
