It is not an automatic production recommendation: pricing and overage terms need checking, and the provider’s uptime figure is self-reported rather than backed by public statistics. The pricing page says annual billing can be up to 15% less than monthly billing and that overage fees apply after the allowance is exceeded. Its rendered overage table did not provide a complete usable per-request rate, so calculate expected cost only after confirming the current rate and how retries or repeated captures count. The FAQ says notices are sent at 75%, 90%, and 100% of the monthly allowance. It describes cancellation or downgrade through the account process, with downgrades taking effect at the end of the billing period. Check account-specific terms before committing.
Features that may matter in a real integration
- Rendering controls: The provider documents viewport and CSS customization, capture delay, custom User-Agent and Accept-Language headers, and custom-width thumbnails. Verify parameter syntax and plan eligibility in current docs.
- Cache: The FAQ says screenshots are cached for 2,592,000 seconds (30 days) by default and that a custom
ttlcan be set lower. A long cache can save repeated work but may return an outdated capture if the page changes. - Export: S3 or custom FTP export is listed for Professional and Enterprise. Confirm whether that delivery path fits your storage and access-control model.
- Concurrency: The vendor describes dedicated workers as server entities that capture one screenshot each; its example equates 10 workers with 10 concurrent snapshots. This is a plan description, not an independently measured throughput guarantee.
Reliability: what is established and what is not
Screenshotlayer’s FAQ reports uptime “around 99.9%,” but also says it does not offer public statistics and that customers can request recent reports. Treat that as the vendor’s own estimate, not an independent uptime measurement or an SLA. The terms say the service may at times be inaccessible or inoperable, place error detection and handling on the customer, and disclaim warranties including accuracy, timeliness, reliability, and availability.
