To capture an entire page with Screenshotlayer, send a GET request to http://api.screenshotlayer.com/api/capture with your access key, a fully qualified target URL, and fullpage=1. Set viewport separately to control the page’s rendering width and height; it does not replace the full-page flag.
Capture a full-height page with Screenshotlayer
The following is a documentation-style request example, not a tested live call. Use an access key from your Screenshotlayer account; do not expose a real key in public code or logs.

cURL
Encode the target URL as a query parameter. With cURL, --data-urlencode safely handles the target URL’s punctuation:

Pass parameters separately so the HTTP library encodes them. This example saves the returned response body; inspect the response and account for API errors before treating the output as an image.

fullpage=1 captures page height
This requests a capture of the target website’s complete height rather than only the visible viewport. It is the setting that makes the request full-page.

viewport controls rendering dimensions
The viewport determines the dimensions used to render the page before capture. The API specification lists 1440x900 as its default and the product page shows 2560x1440 in a full-height example. Use a viewport that matches the layout you need: responsive pages may rearrange content at different widths. A full-page capture and a viewport are complementary settings, not alternatives.

Screenshotlayer’s FAQ documents a default cache duration of 2,592,000 seconds (30 days). It describes ttl as a shorter custom lifetime and force=1 as a request for a fresh capture. Check the Screenshotlayer FAQ for current behavior.
Plan, usage, and format constraints
As listed on Screenshotlayer’s official product page on October 3, 2026, plans are monthly and the free tier is marked non-commercial. These site-listed prices and allowances can change, so verify current account terms before integrating them into a budget or production workflow.

The FAQ describes usage notifications at 75%, 90%, and 100% of the monthly request allowance, and says overage fees apply after the allowance is reached. Treat these as current FAQ terms rather than permanent guarantees: review your account and the live pricing terms. For concurrency planning, the FAQ defines a worker as a server entity assigned to capture one screenshot and says ten workers allow ten concurrent captures; confirm the worker allocation on the plan you choose.
Before choosing a plan, compare its allowance, commercial-use rights, HTTPS availability, required image formats, and worker concurrency with your workload. The official Screenshotlayer product page lists the current plan offering.
Handle errors and inconsistent screenshots
Check API errors first
The API specification says failures return an error code, error type, and informational message. For common errors, check these items in order:

- Missing or invalid access key: confirm the
access_keyis present and copied correctly. - Invalid URL: include the target’s protocol, such as
https://, and ensure the query value is encoded. - Invalid API function: confirm the request uses
/api/capture. - Monthly allowance reached: check usage and current account terms before retrying or changing plans.
Check the target page and rendering setup
If the API request succeeds but the screenshot is not what you expect, consider whether the target requires authentication, renders content after a delay, or changes layout at the chosen viewport. The reviewed Screenshotlayer sources do not promise a particular result for those cases. Test a representative target and adjust the viewport or documented delay control as needed.
Check for stale cached output
If the page has changed but the image has not, the documented default cache may be relevant. Set a shorter ttl for future requests or use force=1 when requesting a fresh capture.
