Schlage says it discontinued Sense and its WiFi Adapter in July 2020, so the comparison is most useful to existing Sense owners and people considering used hardware—not as a choice between two current models. Connect is the relevant family to investigate for a new purchase, but first verify the exact lock model and hub compatibility.
How Connect and Sense differ
| Decision point | Schlage Connect | Schlage Sense |
|---|---|---|
| Product status | Currently listed by Schlage as a Z-Wave Plus product. | Discontinued in July 2020, along with the Sense WiFi Adapter. |
| Primary connection | Z-Wave; remote smart-home control depends on a compatible hub or security system. The lock is not a built-in Wi-Fi lock. | Bluetooth pairing, with legacy Apple Home access through a supported Apple home hub. |
| Remote access route | Through the compatible home automation or security system. | Through a supported Apple home hub or the discontinued Sense WiFi Adapter. The adapter is not compatible with Apple HomeKit. |
| Model distinction | BE468 does not include a built-in alarm; BE469 does. Radio variants and system compatibility should be checked by exact model. | Legacy hardware; check the unit’s condition and whether the required hub or adapter setup is available. |
| Codes and power | Schlage lists 30 access codes for Connect. For BE469, Schlage specifies four AA alkaline batteries and up to one year of battery life with typical use. | A comparable current battery-life figure is not stated on the legacy support page. |

Which one suits your situation?
You already have a compatible Z-Wave system
Connect is the family to investigate if your home already uses a Z-Wave hub or supported security platform. Confirm the exact lock’s radio variant and consult the platform’s supported-device list rather than assuming any Z-Wave hub will work with every Connect model. Schlage lists integrations that include SmartThings, Control4, Ring Alarm, ADT, Qolsys, and 2GIG; platform features can vary. See Schlage’s Connect integrations.

You own a Sense
Sense may remain useful as legacy hardware. For remote access, its historical setup relies on a supported Apple home hub or the Sense WiFi Adapter. Because Schlage discontinued both, verify what is already installed and working before depending on either route. Schlage’s Sense compatibility information is presented for existing owners.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
You are shopping for a new Schlage smart lock
Do not treat Sense as a current alternative to Connect: Schlage discontinued it in July 2020. Compare Connect with Schlage models currently listed for sale, matching the choice to your hub, access needs, and door requirements.
What to verify before choosing Connect
- Read the exact model and radio protocol. Check the lock label or packaging. Schlage’s FAQ distinguishes Z-Wave and Zigbee variants, and alarm behavior differs between BE468 and BE469.
- Check hub support for that exact device. Find the model in your home automation or security platform’s supported-device list. A compatible Z-Wave system is needed for remote smart-home control; Connect itself does not provide Wi-Fi.
- Decide whether the built-in alarm matters. Schlage specifies that BE469 includes one and BE468 does not. Treat that distinction as model-specific, not a universal Connect feature.
- Match features to your access needs. Schlage lists 30 access codes for Connect. The BE469 specification also lists four AA alkaline batteries and up to one year of battery life with typical use; this is a manufacturer estimate, not an independent test result.
What Sense owners should check
- Confirm the lock is already paired and functioning with the phones and home setup you intend to keep using.
- If you need remote access, identify whether a supported Apple home hub or the legacy Sense WiFi Adapter is part of the existing configuration.
- Do not assume the adapter works with Apple HomeKit: Schlage says it is not compatible.
- For a used unit, confirm its condition and the availability of any required legacy hardware before buying; current availability is not established by Schlage’s support documentation.
Bottom line on the difference
Connect is a Z-Wave lock for integration with a compatible hub or security system, while Sense is a discontinued Bluetooth-and-Apple-Home product. Choose Connect only after checking the specific model against your installed system; treat Sense as a legacy option primarily relevant to current owners.
