Its tool-free bottom cover and replaceable components make it unusually serviceable for a modern laptop, though its repair-friendly design does not change the performance trade-offs: Notebookcheck praised the screen, battery life, keyboard and connectivity, but found weak integrated graphics, poor speakers and loud fans under heavier workloads.
What the 72 GB RAM claim actually means
Schenker specifies 8 GB of soldered DDR5-5600 memory plus one accessible SO-DIMM slot that accepts up to 64 GB, for a stated maximum of 72 GB. The full capacity is not socketed, and this is not a two-slot design. Schenker’s extended product information explains the configuration; Notebookcheck’s 2026 review also reports the 72 GB maximum and tested a 40 GB configuration.

Do not assume that any 64 GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM will work. Schenker says it had validated a Crucial 64 GB module using Micron B-Die, but could not obtain enough of that module after Crucial exited the consumer business. The company said it was looking for alternatives; that statement does not establish that a replacement module is now available or validated. Check Schenker’s current compatibility information before buying a high-capacity module.

Schenker also describes firmware that can disable faulty soldered memory and continue using a working SO-DIMM in single-channel mode. This is a diagnostic and service fallback, not a way to replace the soldered memory or a guarantee that every memory fault can be worked around.

How repairable and upgradeable is it?
The E26 is designed to make access and component replacement more practical than on a laptop that seals most parts behind a difficult-to-remove base. Schenker says the bottom cover is tool-free removable and that opening it triggers an automatic electrical battery disconnect. Its side ports sit on separate left and right I/O boards rather than being integrated into one large board.
Schenker lists the SO-DIMM, SSD, Wi-Fi module, battery, keyboard, I/O boards, fans and smaller chassis parts among the comparatively lower-risk user repairs. The touchpad is screw-mounted and individually replaceable, and the keyboard is a separate module. More involved work depends on the fault and the owner’s experience. A motherboard can be removed, but Schenker generally handles motherboard replacement as an in-house service.
The official Schenker ELEMENT 16 E26 download portal lists a model-specific Service Manual and Quick Start Guide. Schenker says the manual covers step-by-step disassembly, including more extensive work on the motherboard, thermal module, I/O boards, touchpad, speakers and display assembly. Consult it before opening the laptop, and check warranty and service terms for your region before doing repair work.
Storage and future motherboard options
The laptop has an M.2 slot supporting PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe SSDs and backward-compatible earlier NVMe generations. The test unit reviewed by Notebookcheck came with a 2 TB Samsung 9100 Pro, so an SSD upgrade is an option rather than an obvious necessity for every buyer. Schenker notes that cooling can affect sustained high SSD transfer rates; peak interface capability alone does not guarantee a drive will maintain its fastest speeds under prolonged load.

Schenker says a direct Intel successor motherboard is planned and that the chassis was designed with multiple motherboard generations in mind. It has not given timing or guaranteed generations after that planned successor. The company says further boards depend in part on the platform’s commercial success, suppliers and demand. Treat a future board swap as a possibility, not a guaranteed upgrade path.

Notebookcheck reviewed an E26 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 356H, 40 GB RAM and a 2 TB SSD. The 16-inch display is a matte IPS panel with 2560 × 1600 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Notebookcheck measured full sRGB coverage and reported no PWM flickering. It also praised the keyboard, connectivity and battery runtime, while reporting a laptop weight of 1.918 kg and a 72 Wh battery. The review identified Wi-Fi 7, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, HDMI and a microSD reader.
The key performance compromise is graphics: Notebookcheck criticized the integrated graphics’ performance, describing its four Xe cores as slow. That matters if your regular work includes demanding 3D applications or gaming; the laptop’s high potential memory capacity does not turn integrated graphics into a discrete GPU. Notebookcheck also found the speakers poor, heard the fans clearly under higher workloads and noted creaking from the base unit.

Notebookcheck rated the laptop 82% overall and 70% in its multimedia weighting. Those are that publication’s review scores, not a guarantee of how the laptop will suit every workload. Its review-time pricing was €1,499 starting and €2,130 for the upgraded test configuration; prices and availability can change, so check current listings rather than treating those figures as current offers.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the E26?
- Consider it if you value accessible repairs, documented disassembly, a replaceable SSD and Wi-Fi module, a matte high-resolution display, and the option to expand memory—provided you verify the specific SO-DIMM first.
- Look elsewhere if strong integrated graphics, high-quality built-in speakers, or quiet fans during sustained heavy workloads are priorities.
- Buy for what is confirmed now: Schenker documents the serviceable parts and one SO-DIMM slot. Do not base the purchase on a guaranteed 64 GB module or on future motherboard generations beyond the planned direct successor.
