Request an official ChatGPT data export
From ChatGPT settings
- Sign in to the eligible ChatGPT account.
- Open Settings > Data controls > Export data.
- Confirm the export request. You may need access to the email inbox or phone number associated with the account for verification or delivery.
- When the export email arrives, download the ZIP and open it to check that it contains the conversations you need.
OpenAI says the export can take up to 7 days to arrive. The download link expires 24 hours after receipt. These are service instructions in OpenAI’s current help article, not a guaranteed delivery time. OpenAI Help Center

Through the Privacy Portal
You can also request a copy of eligible account data through the OpenAI Privacy Portal. This is an alternative request channel for an account-data copy, not a way to select one chat and download it as a PDF.

OpenAI describes the Settings export for signed-in Free, Go, Plus, Pro, and eligible Edu users. It is not available while logged out. Business, Enterprise, and Healthcare workspaces do not have self-service export in the cited current guidance. Edu availability can depend on your role, workspace settings, and data residency. What is in the download—and what it cannot do
The downloaded ZIP includes chat history and other relevant account data. The archive is not described as a PDF, so open and inspect the files rather than assuming it contains a ready-to-share document. OpenAI advises checking that the export includes the conversations you need. OpenAI Help Center
For ChatGPT Edu, exports may include conversations.json or numbered JSON files when an export is larger, along with assets and metadata. Uploading JSON into a personal account can provide reference material, but it does not recreate the old conversations as separate chats or restore the original sidebar. OpenAI Help Center

Personal-account exports can include shared-conversation metadata. That metadata is not the same thing as a PDF containing the full content of every conversation. OpenAI Help Center

An export cannot recover chats you deleted. OpenAI says deleted chats cannot be restored in ChatGPT or through Support. OpenAI Help Center
Making a PDF of one conversation
If your aim is one chat as a PDF, the cited OpenAI documentation does not establish a supported single-conversation PDF feature or a specific browser/app print workflow. The official ZIP export is therefore useful as an account archive, but it should not be presented as an official one-chat PDF solution. Before using any third-party conversion tool, consider what conversation data it can access and how it stores or handles that data; no particular PDF tool is verified here.
