A woman who left a vehicle in the water was swept away; police officers heard her calling for help and directed firefighters to her. The report does not identify the site as a canal or verify that video of the rescue was released.
What happened in the San Antonio high-water rescue?
KSAT reported that the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024. Two men and two women were traveling in a vehicle on Corinne Drive, near Austin Highway and Ira Lee Road, when they turned onto Ira Lee and encountered high water. One woman tried to get out and was swept away. KSAT’s January 22 report says nearby police officers heard her yelling for help and pointed firefighters toward her.
San Antonio Fire Department crews rescued the woman, and EMS took her by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation. She was expected to be okay, and KSAT reported no other injuries. The other three people in the vehicle were eventually walked up the street.
Does the report show a canal rescue video?
The January report describes a high-water incident near Corinne Drive and Ira Lee Road; it does not call the location a canal or establish that dramatic rescue footage was published. Without confirmation of the clip, a visual play-by-play—or a claim that a video depicts this particular rescue—would be unreliable.

A different San Antonio rescue may account for the canal or drainage-tunnel wording. On March 22, 2024, firefighters rescued a woman swept into a drainage tunnel near Babcock Road and Leming Drive on the Northwest Side. Police said they searched the tunnel to Woodlawn Avenue for another person the woman mentioned but did not find anyone. That was a separate event, not the January vehicle-and-high-water rescue. The National Weather Service advises people to stay out of floodwater and not to drive onto flooded roads or around barricades. - Do not walk or drive through floodwater; turn around and find another route.
- If moving water traps you, get to the highest possible point and call 911 if you can.
