Samsung’s smart glasses appear closer to release: The Korea Herald reported on October 1, 2026, that a Samsung official confirmed a November launch. The exact date, price and market-by-market availability have not been announced in the cited reports. Separately, Android Authority reported on September 30 that two model families had appeared in FCC filings—a regulatory step, not a launch announcement.
What changed: FCC filings and a reported launch month
Android Authority reported that FCC filings listed Samsung intelligent-eyewear models SM-O200J and SM-O200P, alongside five additional J-family variants (SM-O201J through SM-O205J) and four additional P-family variants (SM-O201P through SM-O204P). The report speculates that the J and P families correspond to the Gentle Monster and Warby Parker designs, but it does not confirm which letter belongs to which brand. The filing does not itself set a release date or establish that every listed variant will be sold.

No price had been announced in The Korea Herald’s October 1 report. Samsung has also not provided a retail price in the cited May and July announcements. A price comparison with other smart glasses is therefore premature.
What are Samsung Intelligent Eyewear?
Samsung calls the product Intelligent Eyewear. Samsung and Google first showed two styles at Google I/O on May 19, 2026, developed with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Samsung introduced the glasses again at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, describing lightweight frames with different styles, colors and lens options. Those descriptions do not confirm prescription-lens availability in each market.
The product is built on Android XR and integrates Google Gemini. Samsung presents it as a hands-free extension of the Galaxy ecosystem, rather than a replacement for a phone. James Choi, Samsung’s executive vice president and head of XR R&D, said the goal was to help people use their phones less while getting more value from mobile experiences.

Samsung’s May and July descriptions outline voice access to Gemini and practical, phone-linked assistance. Announced examples include:

- Summarizing messages and adding items to a calendar.
- Using real-time translation, including translating menu or sign text in the wearer’s line of sight.

These are announced capabilities, not a guarantee that every feature will work in every market, language, app or phone configuration. Samsung says availability may vary by market and product information is subject to change.
Do Samsung’s smart glasses have a display?
The Korea Herald reports that the first version has no visual display. It describes a camera and microphone capturing input, a connected Galaxy phone handling Gemini processing, and the glasses’ speakers delivering responses. Treat these as details reported by the newspaper; Samsung’s cited official announcements establish the Android XR and Gemini platform but do not provide a full retail specification sheet.

Do Samsung’s AI glasses need a Galaxy phone?
The Korea Herald describes the first version as relying on a connected Galaxy phone for Gemini processing, so it should not be treated as a fully standalone device. Samsung has not published a complete compatibility list or named the exact Galaxy models required in the cited sources. Check the final requirements before buying, particularly if you use a non-Samsung Android phone or an older Galaxy model.

Samsung claims up to nine hours of use on a single charge and up to seven additional full charges from the case. In a July 31 interview, James Choi described “up to nine hours of active use,” including demanding Gemini and video-recording experiences, and said the case enables more than seven full recharges. These are manufacturer claims, not independent battery-test results; actual runtime will depend on use.
Choi said Samsung designed around comfort, fit, weight, materials, thermal management and battery efficiency. Samsung also says it tested exposure to heat, humidity, sunscreen, cosmetics and sweat, as well as repeated hinge movement. Those are Samsung’s descriptions of its engineering and testing, not independent validation. Choi additionally said Samsung had filed “around 200 patent applications in this category”; that executive statement does not mean the applications were granted or that each concerns this retail product.

Recording indicators and privacy
The Korea Herald reports that Samsung says LEDs inside and outside the frame indicate recording, and that the camera shuts off if the external indicator is covered. This is a described safeguard, not a guarantee that recording will always be noticed or that privacy concerns are eliminated. People nearby may not know what a camera-equipped wearable is capturing. Local law and social expectations can differ; the cited material does not establish the legal requirements for every market.
How Samsung’s launch fits the smart-glasses market
The Korea Herald reported Counterpoint Research figures showing global AI-glasses shipments grew 263% year over year in the first half of 2026; display-less models made up 96% of those shipments, and Meta held 94% of the display-less segment. These are category shipment figures reported by the newspaper, not Samsung sales or a forecast for Samsung’s launch.

Once Samsung publishes retail specifications, the useful comparison points will be price and market availability, weight and comfort, battery and case charging, camera and audio capabilities, phone compatibility, privacy controls, frame and prescription choices, and supported languages and apps. Samsung has not provided a final weight in the cited sources.
