Samsung’s redesigned SmartThings app is rolling out for Android as version 1.8.51.30. The update refreshes the Home screen, makes device and routine cards more customizable, and adds controls to the built-in TV remote. You can check for it in SmartThings or Google Play, but Samsung has not published a complete rollout schedule by device or region.
What changed in the redesigned SmartThings app?
Android Authority reported on October 1, 2026, that version 1.8.51.30 was beginning to reach Android devices. The interface resembles SmartThings’ earlier iOS design, with changes focused on navigation and controls rather than new hardware.

- Floating navigation bar: The bottom navigation has a floating appearance.
- Compact, customizable cards: Home and Devices cards for devices and routines take up less space and can be resized or rearranged.
- Quicker card actions: Tapping a card icon can turn a device on or off or run a routine.
- More on Home: An information area can show items such as weather and suggested routines, while Favorites gives you a place to pin devices and routines.
- Updated TV remote: The built-in remote adds a light mode and options to resize and reposition it.
How to check for the update
Samsung documents two ways to update SmartThings. These are general update steps; seeing them does not guarantee that the redesigned version has reached your device.
- Check inside SmartThings: Open SmartThings, tap Menu, then Settings and About SmartThings. Tap Update if an update is offered.
- Check Google Play: Open the Play Store, tap your profile menu, then choose Manage apps & device and Updates available. Tap Update beside SmartThings if it appears.

Why the update may not appear yet
The release is described as a rollout, not a simultaneous update for every Android user. Samsung Members posts include one Galaxy A53 user reporting version 1.8.51.30 on One UI 8.0 on September 30, 2026, and a separate user review dated October 2 describing the release as sequential. These are individual community reports, not an official compatibility list or timing commitment.
Samsung has not provided a complete supported-device list or a device-, carrier- or region-by-region schedule in the available rollout information. If neither update route offers version 1.8.51.30, check again later; no specific arrival date or required Android version is established.

What you need to use SmartThings
The redesign is an app update, not a hardware launch. Samsung’s US setup guidance says SmartThings uses a Samsung account and can be used to monitor and control smart devices, create automations, and organize devices by room and Favorites. Those general service requirements do not establish eligibility for the redesigned app. The update itself does not require buying a hub, phone, TV remote accessory, or other new hardware.
