Samsung Galaxy phones can use Wi-Fi Calling to make calls and send messages when cellular reception is weak or unavailable—but only if the specific phone, carrier, account, and active SIM or eSIM support it. On many Galaxy phones, the usual switch is under Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling. Carrier eligibility and menu names vary, so confirm support with your carrier before relying on the feature.
What Samsung Wi-Fi Calling does—and what it depends on
Samsung describes Wi-Fi Calling as a way to make and receive calls and send messages over a Wi-Fi connection when the mobile network signal is unavailable. That is Samsung support guidance, not a guarantee of coverage or performance in every location. The phone still needs an active carrier service connection through a SIM or eSIM, and both the device and carrier must support the feature.

Wi-Fi Calling is not a separate internet-calling app: your carrier handles the service, and available settings can differ by carrier. Where the phone offers a calling preference, it may let you choose Wi-Fi or cellular when both are available and use the other connection as a fallback. Samsung explains the feature and its settings.
How do I turn on Wi-Fi Calling on my Samsung phone?
Connect to Wi-Fi first and make sure the phone has active SIM or eSIM service. Then try the standard settings path. The precise labels and available controls can vary by Galaxy model, software version, and carrier.

If you use an AT&T phone, Samsung says VoLTE must be enabled for Wi-Fi Calling to activate. See Samsung’s Galaxy Wi-Fi Calling instructions and call-settings guidance for these menu routes.
Why is Wi-Fi Calling missing from my Samsung Galaxy?
A missing option does not necessarily mean the phone is broken. Samsung warns that the feature may not be available on every carrier or device; Google’s Phone app help also advises checking carrier support and notes that the option may not appear if the carrier does not support it.

- Check the setting and service. Open Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling and confirm the switch is on. Verify that the SIM or eSIM is active and that your carrier supports the device and account.
- Restart and update. Restart the Galaxy phone, then install any available software update and try again.
- Reset network settings only if needed. Samsung suggests a network-settings reset when simpler checks have not resolved the issue. This removes saved network configurations, so expect to set up saved connections again.
- Ask the carrier to check provisioning. If it still does not work, ask whether Wi-Fi Calling is enabled for your account and whether your line needs particular APN settings. Samsung notes that the carrier may need to provide service support.

During setup, the phone may ask for emergency contact information, and Samsung lists an Emergency Address option in Wi-Fi Calling settings. Review the information requested and keep the address current in your carrier’s system; do not assume the phone’s saved address automatically updates your carrier record. If you move or are unsure which address is registered, check with your carrier.

Do Wi-Fi calls cost money?
There is no single price rule that applies to every carrier and plan. Google warns that charges may apply and directs users to their mobile provider for details. Check your carrier’s terms for how Wi-Fi calls and messages are billed, including calls to other countries, before using the feature for a particular destination. Google’s guidance does not establish a universal fee or free-calling policy.

Travel availability and billing depend on the carrier, plan, destination, and supported device. The general feature description does not establish that international use is included or that a phone will register on every Wi-Fi network abroad. Before departure, ask your carrier whether Wi-Fi Calling is supported for your line while traveling, how calls to local and international numbers are billed, and whether any setup or emergency-address requirements apply.
