Samsung says a new watch may use more power while apps install and setup completes, and may take about the first week to learn your usage patterns. If the problem continues beyond that period, work through the checks below; settings and menu names vary by watch model and software version.
Why your Samsung watch may be losing charge quickly
Setup and a new watch
Samsung US Support says a new Galaxy Watch may drain faster during app installations, device setup, and other initial processes. Samsung also says the watch may take “the first week or so” of wear to learn usage patterns. This is manufacturer guidance, not a controlled battery-life test. Display, notifications, and background activity
An always-lit screen, high brightness, frequent screen wake-ups, notifications, and apps continuing to run can all add activity. Samsung recommends reviewing display behavior, background apps, and notifications; the available controls differ by model. Start with the settings you can comfortably reduce, rather than disabling everything at once.
Health tracking, voice features, and location use
Measurements and features such as GPS or voice wake can require ongoing or repeated activity. Turn off only features you do not use, and check whether a particular workout, tracking option, or voice feature coincides with the drain. Which controls are available depends on the watch.

Wireless connections and signal
Repeated Wi-Fi searches or a weak signal may use power. Restricting wireless connections has a cost: turning off Bluetooth disconnects the watch from the phone, while turning off mobile networks on an LTE/3G watch disconnects it from carrier service. Temperature, charging equipment, or battery condition
Very hot or cold conditions can affect battery performance. A damaged watch, charger, or charging connection can also warrant attention. Samsung recommends using approved chargers and accessories designed for the device and cautions that a third-party charger may not charge the watch properly. What to check, in order
- If the watch is new, complete setup first. Let apps finish installing, install available watch and app updates, and observe the battery after roughly the first week of use. Setup-period drain alone does not establish that the battery is defective.
- Reduce display use. Try lowering brightness, shortening the screen timeout, and turning off Always On Display if you do not need it. Change one or two options and observe the effect on your usual routine.
- Cut activity you do not need. Close unused background apps and review notification behavior, health measurements, GPS use, and voice wake features. If considering deletion or a reset, back up data you want to keep first.
- Review wireless connections. Limit Wi-Fi or mobile-network searching when you do not need those connections. Before switching off Bluetooth or mobile service, account for the phone or carrier connection you will lose.
- Use Power saving when runtime matters more than full functionality. Samsung says this mode reduces brightness and background functions and limits wireless connections and features such as Raise wrist to wake. Its US guidance says Wi-Fi and mobile data are turned off and performance is limited. Treat it as a temporary trade-off, not a fix for a faulty battery. Samsung US battery guidance
- Check the environment and charging setup. Avoid temperature extremes, look for physical or liquid damage, and use a Samsung-approved accessory designed for your model.
Make changes in small batches, then compare battery behavior during a similar day of use. Samsung does not publish a universal percentage saved for each setting, so an improvement depends on your model, settings, signal, and usage.

If the drain remains unusually high after setup and basic settings checks, inspect the watch and charger for damage. If the watch is paired with a Samsung phone, Samsung says you can run a battery diagnostic in the Samsung Members app. Samsung describes a passing result as indicating that the battery is in good condition. If the diagnostic does not pass, or the watch has physical or liquid damage, contact Samsung Support or an authorized service provider for model-specific next steps. A single battery-runtime figure or fixed replacement interval cannot be applied to every Galaxy Watch: model, software, connectivity, and use all matter.
