If a UPI payment in Samsung Wallet fails, first check what kind of payment it was and whether the money was debited. For a QR payment, bank transfer, bill payment or collect request, verify the linked bank account, registered mobile number, recipient details and UPI PIN. Before trying again, check the transaction history in Samsung Wallet and your bank account so you do not accidentally pay twice.
First identify where the payment failed
Samsung’s India UPI instructions cover payments from a linked bank account: sending to a UPI address or account, scanning a QR code, paying online or paying a bill. These transactions use UPI and are authorized with a UPI PIN. A pending collect request is a separate flow to review in the app. Menu names can vary because Samsung’s India pages use both Samsung Pay and Samsung Wallet naming, and labels may differ by device or app version. - Could not link or verify an account: check the selected bank account and the mobile number used for UPI setup.
- Payment rejected after entering the PIN: check that the PIN is correct and that the bank account or service is available.
- QR, recipient or bill payment failed: verify the destination details and then check transaction status before retrying.
- Payment is pending or money was debited: do not assume it failed permanently; check the app and bank records.
- A phone tap at a payment terminal failed: that is an NFC contactless-payment issue, not a UPI transfer problem.
Check the Samsung Wallet UPI setup
Confirm the registered mobile number
Samsung says the mobile number used for UPI setup must be the same number registered with the selected bank account. If the numbers do not match, check with your bank before trying to link the account again. Samsung’s BHIM UPI setup instructions describe this requirement.

Check the linked account, connection and recipient
In Samsung Wallet or Samsung Pay, confirm that the intended bank account is linked and available, and that the UPI address or recipient details are correct. Make sure the phone has a working internet connection and the app is up to date. These are general UPI troubleshooting checks, not a diagnosis of a particular Samsung error; Google’s UPI troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking recipient details and possible bank-side issues or limits.

If the UPI PIN is rejected
Use the UPI PIN for the selected bank account, not the phone lock code or a card PIN. If you have forgotten it, use the official PIN reset flow in Samsung Wallet or through your bank. NPCI says repeated incorrect PIN entries can temporarily restrict transactions; the duration varies by bank, so there is no single lockout time to rely on. Never share your UPI PIN: it authorizes transactions, and bank support should not ask you to disclose it. NPCI’s UPI FAQ
Check transaction status before retrying
Open Samsung Wallet/Pay’s transaction history and check the corresponding entry in your bank account. Samsung says UPI transaction history is available in the app. If the transaction is pending or the account shows a debit, save the transaction reference and establish its status before making another payment. NPCI’s UPI FAQ says a failed payment that debited the account will be refunded and advises contacting the bank if the refund has not arrived within one hour. For the FAQ’s specific case of a pending debit without credit to the beneficiary, it says the beneficiary-bank credit may be delayed by up to 48 hours. Use NFC fixes only if a terminal tap failed
If the failure happened while tapping your phone against a contactless payment terminal, check that NFC is enabled and that the intended contactless-payment app is set as the default. Remove a third-party cover if it may interfere with the antenna, and hold the phone near its NFC antenna location. Escalate a debit or unresolved payment
For a UPI transaction, Samsung’s India guidance gives this complaint path: start in the UPI app against the relevant transaction, then escalate to the PSP bank, the bank holding your account, and finally NPCI if it remains unresolved. Use your bank’s official app or contact channel, and keep the transaction reference, date, amount and relevant account record available. NPCI’s complaint portal routes complaints to the relevant member bank or institution and lets you check complaint or transaction status.
NPCI’s FAQ lists a normal UPI transaction limit of up to ₹1 lakh per transaction, but the page does not display a publication date and limits may differ by transaction category, bank or app. Check the current limit for your specific payment with your bank or app rather than treating that figure as universal.
