If a Samsung TV remote is not working, first check the receiver’s location and line of sight, then test the remote’s batteries or charging and pairing. Samsung TVs do not all place the infrared (IR) sensor in the same spot, and a camera test can check for an IR signal from the remote—but it cannot confirm that the TV’s receiver works.
Where is the IR sensor on a Samsung TV?
There is no single sensor location for every Samsung TV. Samsung identifies common positions along the lower edge, including the lower-right side and bottom center. On some models, the sensor is near the TV Controller button at the bottom of the set. Check the manual for your exact model rather than relying on a location that applies to another Samsung TV. Samsung Canada’s Smart Remote troubleshooting guidance and the Samsung Q80C Series user manual describe these locations.

Can a soundbar or other object block the sensor?
Yes. An object between the remote and the TV’s IR receiver can block the signal. Move a soundbar, decorations, protective film, or other items that cover the lower edge or receiver’s direct sightline. Samsung also warns that nearby electronic equipment can interfere with remote operation. If clearing the path does not help, move nearby devices or likely sources of interference—such as lights, radios, or mobile devices—away temporarily and test again. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance covers blocked signals, while Samsung Hong Kong’s remote-control guidance notes possible disruption from nearby electronics.
How far away should you stand, and where should you aim?
For a nearby test, point the remote directly at the receiver from 5–6 feet (1.5–1.8 m) away. That is Samsung’s troubleshooting instruction in the 2023 Q80C Series manual; it is not a universal maximum-range specification for all Samsung TVs or remotes. If the remote works at that distance but not from your usual position, check the angle and sightline, then consult your model’s manual. Samsung Q80C Series user manual

- It is imperative to purchase by PART number ONLY (NOT TV model number). The listed TV model number is a reference only and should not be used to make a purchase decision. The reason is that there can be several different parts that go into the same TV model. These different parts are NOT interchangeable.
- If you are not sure how to check and match your PART number (NOT TV model number), please contact us first so that we can help you save time and money.
How can you tell whether the remote is sending infrared?
A phone or digital camera can help you check whether the remote emits an IR signal. Point the remote’s front at the camera, press a button, and look at the remote’s emitter on the camera display. Some cameras show the signal as a light. Samsung recommends this as a practical check, but a visible signal does not prove that every button sends a valid command, and it does not test the TV’s receiver.
If no signal is visible
Check that the batteries are installed in the correct direction and replace them if needed. For a rechargeable or solar remote, recharge it according to the instructions for that model. Then try the camera test again. Samsung’s guidance explains the camera check and power steps: Samsung Hong Kong and Samsung Canada.

If a signal is visible but the TV does not respond
Clear the receiver’s sightline, aim directly at it from the nearby test distance, and check whether your remote needs to be paired. A Bluetooth Smart Remote pairing issue can resemble an IR reception problem. Samsung’s Q80C manual gives instructions for pairing its Smart Remote; follow the steps for your own model rather than assuming all Samsung remotes pair the same way. Samsung Q80C Series user manual
Can you use another remote or a phone instead?
Another Samsung remote may handle basic functions, but compatibility and feature coverage vary. Samsung Canada recommends BN59-01301A for basic functionality and advises searching by the TV’s model number for an exact replacement. Verify the full model number and the features you need before buying: a basic IR remote is not a guarantee of Smart Remote features or Bluetooth behavior. Samsung Canada’s replacement guidance discusses basic IR functionality and model-based replacement searches; Samsung UK’s remote-control guidance describes using another Samsung remote for basic functions.

- You MUST check and verify that your original part number is "BN96-45912A", as your TV model uses three (3) different Power Button/IR Sensor Boards. They are NOT interchangeable. If you purchase and install the wrong one, it will NOT work in your TV.
- Your original part must show "BN96-45912A" or else it will NOT work in your TV.
Samsung SmartThings may provide phone-based TV control after you select the TV in the app. Setup and availability depend on the device and account or network circumstances described by Samsung. Using the app is an alternative way to control the TV, not a repair for its physical IR sensor. See Samsung Canada’s Smart Remote guidance.

Some models have a replaceable control or sensor assembly, but there is no universal sensor part number. A repair guide for the Samsung UE32F5000AK identifies a P-Jog assembly that includes the IR sensor and lists BN96-26411B for that model only. That part number is not evidence of compatibility with other Samsung TVs. iFixit’s UE32F5000AK P-Jog assembly guide

- Improve signal stability: The old connection box is easily interfered with and cause signal interruption, and after replacement, it is equipped with better anti-interference technology, which can continue to transmit signals stably, avoid problems such as screen stuttering and black screen when watching, and ensure a smooth viewing experience.
- Reduce maintenance costs: Old connector box parts are prone to frequent failures, maintenance is not only time-consuming but also requires additional expenses, after replacing the equipment, its stable performance can reduce the frequency of failures, and in the long run, it can save maintenance costs.
- Improved picture and sound performance: The new cable supports high-definition specifications, which can fully utilize the performance of the TV's hardware, restore 4K/HDR quality details, and optimize audio transmission for a more immersive audio-visual experience when watching movies.
- Reduce the frequency of connection failures: the old wire interface is easy to wear, the internal wire core is easy to break, which often leads to the failure of the equipment connection.
