Samsung calls HDMI-CEC Anynet+. To enable it, open your TV’s Settings and turn on Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) under External Device Manager. The exact menu path depends on the TV’s model year. Once it is enabled, connect a compatible HDMI-CEC device; the TV remote may then control supported functions, and devices may power on or switch inputs automatically.
Turn on Anynet+ in your Samsung TV settings
Start with the route for your TV’s model year. Samsung’s published menu paths are below; regional interfaces and software versions may use slightly different labels.

| TV model year | Menu path to Anynet+ |
|---|---|
| 2025–2026 | Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) |
| 2023–2024 | Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) |
| 2022 | Settings > General & Privacy > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) |
| 2017–2021 | Settings > General > External Device Manager > Anynet+ |
| 2016 | Settings > System > Expert Settings > Anynet+ |
| 2014–2015 | Menu > System > Anynet+ |
On many newer models, the full route is Home > Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC). Some older models place it under General > External Device Manager. If your menus differ, search Settings for “External Device Manager” or use the manual for your exact model code. Samsung’s Anynet+ guide and eARC guide provide these model-year routes.

Connect a device that supports HDMI-CEC to the TV with HDMI, turn the device on, and select it from the TV’s connected-device list if needed. Samsung says Anynet+ can let the TV remote control supported functions, including power or standby and some volume or audio controls. Starting playback on a connected device may also turn on the TV and change it to that device’s input.

Those automatic power and input changes are part of CEC behavior, and can be inconvenient if you do not want devices to control one another. Anynet+ requires a CEC-capable device, and Samsung cautions that some HDMI cables may not support it. Samsung describes Anynet+ availability on most Samsung Smart TVs made after 2008, but check your model’s manual to confirm.
Samsung’s 2023 Anynet+ guidance states a limit of up to 12 connected devices, including no more than three devices of the same type and one home theater system at a time. These are Samsung’s limits for its implementation, not a universal HDMI-CEC specification. See Samsung’s Anynet+ support page.

- Make sure the connected device is on and supports HDMI-CEC.
- Choose the correct device in the TV’s Connected Devices list.
- Check that the HDMI cable is a high-speed cable; try a different cable if the connection still fails.
- Unplug the devices for a few minutes, reconnect power, and test again.
- Check for firmware updates on the TV and affected devices.
- Only after the connection, power-cycle, and update checks, consider a factory reset of the affected device. A reset erases its settings.

Set up ARC or eARC audio with a soundbar or receiver
Enabling Anynet+ does not by itself establish an ARC/eARC audio connection. The TV, soundbar or receiver, HDMI cable, ports, and audio-output settings must also be compatible. Connect the TV’s designated HDMI ARC/eARC port to the audio device’s HDMI OUT (TV-ARC) port. On a third-party audio device, enable its CEC and ARC features if required and select its HDMI ARC input. In the TV sound settings, choose Receiver (HDMI) or the equivalent output option.
For eARC
Samsung’s August 2026 guidance says both the TV and audio device need eARC support, as does the cable. Samsung lists eARC on selected TV models from 2020 onward and selected soundbars from 2019 onward; those ranges do not mean every product from those years supports it. Anynet+ must also be enabled. On supported TVs, open Settings > All Settings > Sound > Expert Settings, set HDMI eARC Mode to Auto, and set Digital Output Audio Format to Auto or Pass-Through. Menu labels can vary.

- Requires 2x AAA batteries (No batteries included).
If eARC produces no sound or poor output, check that you used the correct ARC/eARC ports and a compatible cable, reconnect the cable, and set eARC Mode to Auto. If the audio device may not support the selected format, test PCM, Auto, or Pass-Through under Digital Output Audio Format. Samsung also recommends temporarily disconnecting other HDMI devices to see whether one is interfering. Its eARC guide describes these checks and notes that ARC supports compressed 5.1 audio, while eARC can support uncompressed 5.1 and 7.1 and high-bitrate or object-based formats. Actual format support depends on the connected equipment.
For conventional ARC
Use the TV port labeled ARC and connect it to the audio device’s TV-ARC output. Samsung’s Singapore guide specifies an HDMI cable version 1.4 or higher for conventional ARC. Follow the requirements for the particular feature and equipment you are using; eARC has its own compatibility requirements. See Samsung’s ARC/eARC instructions.
