Start with viewing distance and room fit, then choose a display family for your lighting and viewing priorities. Samsung’s size recommendations are useful starting points—not universal rules—and model-specific features matter more than a family label. Before buying, check the exact TV’s dimensions, stand or mounting requirements, HDR, refresh rate, VRR and ports.
What size Samsung TV should you get?
Samsung’s US buying guide recommends these viewing distances. Measure from your usual seat to the screen, then confirm that the television and its stand or wall mount fit the room.

| Screen size | Samsung-recommended viewing distance |
|---|---|
| Below 50 inches | 4.5–5.5 feet |
| 55 inches | About 5.5 feet |
| 65 inches | About 6.5 feet |
| 75 inches | About 7.5 feet |
| 85 inches | About 8.5 feet |
These are Samsung’s recommendations, not a universal viewing formula. A larger screen may suit your distance, but room layout, viewing angle and personal preference also matter. Check the product’s full dimensions—not just its diagonal—along with stand width, mounting dimensions and weight in the model manual. For a wall mount, match the TV’s VESA pattern and weight rating to the mount, and account for wall type and clearance.
Samsung describes 4K as having four times as many pixels as Full HD. Resolution is only one consideration: whether a resolution premium is useful depends partly on screen size, viewing distance and the content you watch. Samsung’s US TV buying guide provides its size and resolution guidance.

Which Samsung display type suits your room?
The family names refer to different display approaches, but they do not guarantee that every model in one family outperforms every model in another. Compare the exact models and their features.
| Family | What the label means | How Samsung positions it |
|---|---|---|
| OLED | Pixels emit their own light; there is no separate backlight. | Dark-room, cinematic viewing. |
| QLED | An LCD television with an LED backlight and Quantum Dot layer. | Bright-room viewing. |
| Neo QLED | QLED with Mini LED backlighting for more precise backlight control. | Bright-room viewing; some models also emphasize gaming features. |
| Crystal UHD | Samsung’s 4K UHD family. | A more value-oriented everyday option. |
Those are Samsung’s descriptions and positioning, not independent comparative test results. Room brightness, reflections and black-level performance can affect what looks best to you; check the particular model’s reflection handling and contrast rather than deciding from the name alone. Samsung’s US TV product information and QLED guide explain its terminology.

Which features should you compare?
HDR and resolution
Check the exact model’s supported HDR features rather than assuming they are identical across Samsung TVs. Samsung’s US QLED page says QLED models offer 4K and HDR, but that statement does not establish identical HDR performance or specifications for every model. Compare the content you watch and the features listed for the specific set.
Refresh rate, VRR and gaming connections
For console or PC gaming, compare the native refresh rate, variable refresh rate (VRR) support and ports on the exact TV. Samsung’s Neo QLED guide references 120Hz and low input lag, but those details should not be generalized to the entire lineup. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report lists 4K 165Hz VRR for the QN90F specifically; it is not a specification for every Samsung TV. Match the set’s connections and capabilities to your console or PC.

Installation and sound
Use the model manual to confirm mounting dimensions and weight before choosing a mount. Samsung mentions a Q Series soundbar as an optional pairing for Neo QLED, but verify compatibility for the specific television and soundbar before buying.
