Samsung-to-iPhone Location Sharing: The Google Maps Setup

Google Maps lets a Samsung Galaxy share live location with an iPhone. Set a duration, share with a contact or link, and stop the share in Maps.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes. A Samsung Galaxy can share its live location with an iPhone through Google Maps. The Samsung user starts the share; the iPhone user views it in Google Maps or, if they do not have a Google Account, opens a share link. Choose a duration, and stop sharing when it is no longer needed.

How to share a Samsung location with an iPhone

Google Maps supports location sharing on both Android and iPhone. On the Samsung phone, use the Android steps below; the recipient can view the share in Google Maps on the iPhone. Google Maps instructions for Android and instructions for iPhone and iPad cover the respective sides of the process.

Share with a Google Maps contact

  1. Open Google Maps on the Samsung phone and sign in to a Google Account.
  2. For contact-based sharing, add the iPhone user’s Gmail address to Google Contacts if it is not already there.
  3. Tap your profile picture or initial, then tap Location sharing and New share.
  4. Choose how long to share, select the recipient, and tap Share.
  5. The recipient can view the location share in Google Maps on the iPhone.

Send a link instead

If the recipient does not have a Google Account, select the link-sharing option, copy the link, and send it by text or another messaging app. Google says anyone with the link can view the live location for up to 24 hours. Treat the link like a key: anyone who receives it may be able to access the location during that period. See Google’s Android location-sharing instructions and iPhone and iPad instructions.

What the iPhone recipient can see

Google says recipients may see the sharer’s name and photo, recent device location even when Google apps are not being used, and battery level or charging status. Share only with someone you trust, and choose the duration deliberately. Google’s Android guidance and iPhone and iPad guidance explain the information shown and the sharing controls.

Why Samsung Find and SmartTag are not the same solution

Samsung Find documentation describes location sharing with family, contacts, and other Samsung account users, with the app installed on the receiving device. The documentation does not establish that an iPhone recipient is supported. See Samsung’s Samsung Find location-sharing guidance and its overview of Samsung Find features.

  • 🔔Map, Sound, Alerts + Sharing: Check the lock’s network-assisted location on a map, play a sound when it is nearby, and use supported left-behind alerts, lost-item tools and sharing features. Location updates depend on Bluetooth, phone settings and participating devices in the Find My or Find Hub network.
  • 🔋Up to 4 Months Per Charge: The rechargeable battery runs for up to four months under typical conditions. Recharge in about 1.5 hours with the included Type-C cable; the indicator shows orange while charging and green when full. The manual recommends topping up every three months.

SmartTag and SmartTag+ locate tagged objects rather than provide the phone-to-phone live-location workflow described here. Samsung says iOS devices are not supported for SmartTag use, so a SmartTag is not a workaround for sharing a Samsung phone’s location with an iPhone. See Samsung’s SmartTag and SmartTag+ support page.
