Samsung describes Lockdown mode as a temporary way to secure a device with its PIN, password, or pattern: it disables biometric unlocking, blocks notifications, and prevents USB connections. But Samsung’s current instructions cover Galaxy phones, not every Galaxy Tab. Check your tablet’s exact model and software version before looking for the setting; the phone steps below are not guaranteed tablet directions.
How do I use Lockdown mode on my Samsung tablet?
First, check whether your tablet offers the setting. Search Settings for “Lockdown mode” or inspect its secure lock settings. Samsung warns that menu names and options vary by device and software version, and its current [Lockdown mode guide](https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS100 jav?) is written for Galaxy phones. It does not establish that the feature is available on every Galaxy Tab or One UI build.

Samsung’s documented steps for Galaxy phones
These are Samsung’s phone instructions, not universal tablet directions:

- Galaxy phones with One UI 8.0 or earlier: Go to Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Secure lock settings, authenticate, and enable “Show Lockdown mode.” Open the Power menu and tap Lockdown mode.
- Galaxy phones with One UI 8.5: Hold Volume down and Power together, then tap Lockdown mode. Samsung says “Show Lockdown mode” is enabled by default starting with One UI 8.5.
- Galaxy phones with One UI 9.0 or later: Samsung says holding Volume down and Power activates Lockdown mode automatically. Check the current instructions for your device, as this behavior may change with software updates.
Unlock after activating it
Double-tap the screen and enter your device PIN, password, or pattern. Once you unlock the device, Samsung says biometrics work normally the next time it is locked without Lockdown mode.
What Lockdown mode changes
When active, Lockdown mode switches the device to credential-only unlocking and blocks notifications and USB connections, according to Samsung. The temporary state applies to the device rather than only selected apps. Samsung’s phone support page describes the feature; availability on a particular tablet still depends on that tablet’s model and software.

Lockdown mode or Secure Folder?
They serve different purposes. Lockdown mode temporarily restricts access to the whole device; Secure Folder protects selected apps and content in a separate area while the wider device can remain unlocked.

Samsung’s Secure Folder guide covers Australian variant Galaxy devices. It says Secure Folder apps and data cannot be transferred to another device and advises keeping another backup copy of important data. Treat that guidance as regional and device-specific.

Troubleshoot Lockdown mode problems
- Biometrics still seem available: Confirm Lockdown mode was activated, then unlock using the device PIN, password, or pattern.
- Notifications or the Now Bar remain visible: Samsung advises restarting the device if notifications remain visible.
- Lockdown mode is unavailable after five failed attempts: Samsung says five failed unlock attempts can temporarily prevent use of the feature. Unlock the device correctly, then try Lockdown mode again.
- The device locks immediately when you trigger it: That may be the expected result of activating the feature. Use the device credential to unlock.
