When will Samsung Sound shut down?
SamMobile reported on October 1, 2026, that an in-app notice gives March 31, 2027, as the shutdown date. Android Central reported the same date on October 2, citing SamMobile and reproducing the notice’s transition wording. Which app is affected?
Samsung Sound is used to control compatible Samsung soundbars and Wi-Fi speakers. Samsung’s U.S. support page names Q-Series soundbars, Wi-Fi speakers, and Music Frame; its 2026 audio announcement also describes managing sound and grouping speakers across soundbars and Music Studio speakers. It is not Sound Assistant. The Galaxy Store lists Sound Assistant separately as a Good Lock Labs app for Galaxy phone audio features, including routing app audio and playing sound from multiple apps. How to add a compatible soundbar or speaker to SmartThings
Samsung’s support instructions offer SmartThings when an audio device is compatible with Sound or Samsung Sound is unavailable in the app store. Have the device powered on and near your phone or tablet, then follow these steps:
- Open SmartThings and select a location.
- Choose Add device.
- On the Samsung devices card, choose Add.
- Select Soundbar or Speaker.
- Follow the prompts to discover and register the device.
The in-app notice, as reproduced by Android Central, says: “Simply register your sound device in the SmartThings app to continue using your existing settings.” That is the reported notice wording, not a statement attributed to a named Samsung spokesperson. Android Central

Will every device and setting transfer?
The available support guidance gives a setup route for compatible devices, but Samsung’s reviewed public page does not provide a complete model-by-model migration list. The notice refers to continuing existing settings; the reviewed sources do not establish that every model-specific feature or control will transfer unchanged.
After registration, check that the device appears in SmartThings and that the controls and settings you rely on are available. If it does not appear, or a control is missing, consult Samsung’s support instructions for your device rather than assuming all models have the same compatibility or feature set. Samsung Support

Does the change require buying new hardware?
No hardware purchase is identified as part of the software transition. The reported instruction is to register a compatible sound device in SmartThings. Samsung’s April 2026 announcement describes Samsung Sound as a control and grouping app for that year’s Q-Series soundbars and Music Studio Wi-Fi speakers, but it does not make those products a requirement for moving to SmartThings.
