Samsung says updates must then be started manually. This setting is for device software; app updates have separate controls.
Turn off automatic system-update downloads

Open Settings and tap Software update. On some devices or carriers, the menu is called System updates.

Turn off Auto download over Wi-Fi. Samsung says that with this option disabled, you need to update manually. Menu names and available controls can vary by model, software version, and wireless service provider. Samsung’s update instructions describe the setting.

If you cannot find the option, search Settings for “Software update.” If it still does not appear, check your device’s model, software version, and carrier-specific settings; the control may not be available under the same name on every Galaxy.

What this setting does—and does not do
Auto download over Wi-Fi controls automatic downloads over Wi-Fi. Samsung does not describe it as a way to permanently disable every update prompt or every update route. You may still see reminders or need to manage updates through other available controls.
Auto Blocker is not a substitute. Samsung says it blocks USB-cable software updates and unofficial software; official updates through the device’s Settings or Smart Switch are not affected. Samsung’s Auto Blocker guidance explains its scope.

Stop automatic updates for Play Store apps separately
The system-update switch does not control Google Play Store app updates. To disable automatic updates for Play Store apps, open Play Store > profile icon > Settings > Network preferences > Auto-update apps > Don’t auto-update apps. Samsung documents this separate app setting in its Google Play Store app-update instructions.
Choose when to install updates
Turning off automatic Wi-Fi downloads lets you choose when to start a system update, but delaying one can also delay security improvements and bug fixes. Samsung recommends installing available updates and notes that installation interrupts device use: files are inaccessible, and even emergency calls cannot be made during installation. Plan to update when you can be without the device. Samsung’s update guide describes its recommendation and installation cautions.

Check what an update changes
Update contents can differ by device model, country, and service provider. Read the update information shown on your own device before installing rather than assuming another Galaxy model will receive identical changes. Samsung’s update guidance directs users to check the update details for their device.
