Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag3 is no longer limited to Galaxy phones for basic finding: core finding and sharing are supported on Galaxy and iOS devices, and Samsung has also confirmed support for other Android phones that can install SmartThings and Samsung Find. That broader reach is the tracker’s most significant change—but it does not give every phone the same features.
Which phones can use SmartTag3?
Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement says users can access core finding and sharing through SmartThings Find on Galaxy and iOS devices. Android Authority separately reports that Samsung confirmed SmartTag3 also works with other Android phones if they can install both SmartThings and Samsung Find. Check that both apps are available for your phone before buying; support for the apps does not guarantee every SmartTag3 feature will work on that device. Not all features are available on every platform
Samsung says Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert are unavailable on iOS. Compass View also requires supported Galaxy hardware, so installing the Samsung apps on another Android phone does not necessarily provide that feature. Compatibility is broader, but it is not feature parity. Samsung’s U.S. announcement; Android Authority’s report.
What the new finding features do—and where they fall short
Area and movement alerts
- Place Notification: Set an area and receive an alert when the tag moves into or out of it. Samsung labels this a trial feature and warns that the displayed location may differ from the tag’s actual location.
- Movement Detection Alert: Get a notification when movement is detected, but only while the tag is disconnected. The alert relies on nearby Galaxy devices participating in Offline finding, so Samsung warns that notifications may be delayed or may not arrive.
- Location History: Review where the tag has been, with history retained for up to seven days.
These features depend on a finding network, not continuous GPS reporting. Samsung says more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide can act as finding nodes. That is Samsung’s figure, not an independent measurement; when and whether a location update arrives depends on nearby participating devices, network conditions, device settings and region. #1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Directional guidance and close-range finding
Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding supports Compass View guidance at distances of up to 60 meters—about three times the previous generation’s range—under line-of-sight conditions, according to Samsung. Ultra-wideband (UWB) provides more precise guidance at closer range. Walls, nearby electronics, compatible-device support and regional availability can affect performance; the 60-meter figure is not a guarantee for every setting or phone. Samsung’s U.S. announcement.
Lost Mode, routines and durability
- Lost Mode: NFC can show contact information or a message you registered in advance. The person who finds the tag needs a compatible NFC reader and internet access.
- Button routines: The tag’s button can trigger preset routines for compatible SmartThings devices.
- Water and dust resistance: Samsung rates SmartTag3 IP67, defining that as protection in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Samsung advises against using it at the beach or pool and says resistance can diminish over time.

Battery life: Samsung’s estimates and the trade-off
Samsung estimates up to 550 days in standard use or up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. These are simulated internal-lab estimates using a pre-release tracker and its included CR2032 battery, not promised real-world runtimes; actual life varies with use, surroundings and the replacement battery. Power Saving Mode can disable Compass View, volume and ringtone settings, leaving basic Bluetooth LE finding. Samsung’s U.S. announcement.

When SmartTag3 goes on sale and what it costs in the U.S.
Samsung said availability in Korea would begin October 7, 2026, with the U.S. to follow and additional markets planned for 2027. Samsung Electronics America announced U.S. availability by early November 2026 at $29.99 for one tracker or $99.99 for a four-pack, in white and black. Those are announced dates and prices, not confirmation of live stock. Samsung also announced separate Silicone Case with keyring and Loop Case accessories. Safety note for tags attached to pets
SmartTag3 contains a lithium coin/button-cell battery. Samsung warns that swallowing it can be dangerous for young children and pets, especially if the tracker comes loose from a collar or accessory. Secure the tag and keep it out of reach if it becomes detached. Samsung’s U.S. announcement.
