Those apps can use different accounts from their regular versions. It is not a second physical phone or a separate operating system; it is a protected area on the same device.
What makes Secure Folder feel like a second phone?
Samsung describes Secure Folder as a separate protected area on Galaxy devices, with its own passcode or biometric lock and Knox protection. Its “second phone” feel comes from keeping selected apps and files apart from the ordinary profile—not from running another phone system. Samsung explains the feature in its Secure Folder overview.

The distinction matters: Secure Folder can separate chosen content, but it does not automatically create a complete duplicate of your phone. You decide which apps and files to add.

When you add an app already installed on the phone, Secure Folder creates a separate copy. You can sign in to that copy with a different account, so, for example, the regular app and the Secure Folder copy can be used with separate logins. You can also download an app directly into Secure Folder. Samsung outlines these options in its UK Secure Folder guide.

If you want an app to exist only inside Secure Folder, Samsung says to uninstall its ordinary copy after adding it to the protected space. Consider whether you still need the regular copy before removing it.
How to add files—and choose copy or move
Secure Folder lets you copy or move files, and the choice determines what happens to the original:

- Copy: a version is added to Secure Folder while the original stays where it is.
- Move: the file is transferred into Secure Folder, removing it from its previous location.
Samsung’s US instructions say a file must be in internal storage or on an SD card to be moved into Secure Folder; files held only in a cloud account cannot be moved directly. Samsung US directs users to the Secure Folder option in the device’s Settings, where the setup flow asks them to choose a lock. During setup, you may be offered “Reset with Samsung account.” If you do not enable that option, Samsung says you cannot use that account-based route to regain access if you forget the Secure Folder passcode. Menus and labels can vary with software version and carrier.

What happens when you hide Secure Folder?
You can hide Secure Folder from the home or app screen. Hiding its icon is not the same as deleting the folder. Samsung’s Global Newsroom says apps in the folder stop working while it is hidden and resume when the folder is opened again. Treat this as Samsung’s description of the feature, not a guarantee that hiding defeats every way someone might try to access a device. Read Samsung’s privacy and Secure Folder overview.

Availability depends on your Galaxy device
Secure Folder is available only on supported Galaxy phones and tablets. If the option does not appear under Security and privacy, your device may not support it. Samsung also notes that screens and settings can differ by provider and software version, so check your exact model and current One UI settings rather than assuming the feature is available on every Galaxy device.

Backup guidance varies by region and version
Samsung Gulf’s support page, updated June 15, 2026, says Secure Folder has no direct backup functionality and advises moving files out before using another backup service. Other regional or older Samsung help material may describe backup options. Because the guidance is not uniform, check the current Secure Folder settings and local Samsung support before depending on a backup or migration method.
