Find the microphone opening on your Galaxy phone
The microphone is often on the bottom edge of a Galaxy phone, but its position can vary by model. Check the device’s manual or model-specific support information to identify the opening before you clean it. Do not mistake another opening for the microphone or assume every Galaxy phone has the same layout.

Look for an obstruction without inserting anything. A case, protective film, or visible debris may cover the opening and muffle sound. Remove the case and any accessory that could be blocking it, then inspect the exterior in good light.

- Power off the phone. This reduces the chance of accidentally operating it while cleaning.
- Remove the case and external obstructions. Check that a cover, film, or accessory is not blocking the microphone.
- Clean gently from the outside. Use a clean, soft, dry cloth to wipe the surrounding surface. If there is visible dry debris, a soft-bristled brush may be used lightly across the exterior; do not insert the bristles into the opening.
- Stop if debris remains lodged. Do not probe the opening or apply force. Have the phone inspected if you cannot clear an obstruction safely.
- Turn the phone back on and test it. Make a short recording and play it back before assuming the microphone needs repair.
Samsung India’s support guidance dated November 19, 2025 recommends powering off and using a soft brush or compressed air with minimal pressure, while warning against sharp objects and liquids. Samsung US guidance warns against compressed-air cans; its water-exposure guidance also advises against compressed air, chemical cleaners, abrasive materials, and external heat. Because the regional instructions differ, compressed air is not a suitable universal recommendation. The gentlest shared approach is exterior-only cleaning with no liquid, sharp tool, force, compressed air, or heat.

If the phone or microphone is wet
Moisture in the microphone can reduce the volume heard by the person on the other end of a call. Pat the microphone area, earpiece, and speaker dry with a clean, soft cloth, then allow the phone to air-dry before making calls. Do not use a hair dryer, heater, or other external heat source.
Do not rinse every Galaxy phone. Samsung’s rinse instruction applies only to water-resistant models exposed to dirty water or certain liquids: the affected device should be rinsed in clean water for 1 to 3 minutes and dried completely. The device’s water-resistance rating and the type of liquid matter. For a non-water-resistant model, or if the phone has been exposed to liquid and its condition is uncertain, power it off and seek inspection rather than applying the rinse guidance.

Test the microphone and narrow down the cause
- Remove accessories and disable Bluetooth. This helps rule out a case obstruction or an external audio device taking over microphone input.
- Restart the phone. Then make a short recording in Voice Recorder or Camera and play it back.
- Check the result. If the recording is clear, the built-in microphone is likely working normally; an accessory or a recently downloaded app may be involved. If it remains muffled or silent, continue with diagnostics.
- Update apps and device software. Samsung also describes Safe mode as a way to check whether a downloaded app is contributing to the problem.
- Run a diagnostic. Samsung India recommends testing the microphone through Samsung Members. Menu names and availability may vary by model, country, and software version; follow the diagnostic options shown on your phone.
A recording that sounds clear does not prove that every microphone or call path works in every situation. If the problem is limited to calls, test again after disabling Bluetooth and removing accessories, and note whether it affects a particular app or situation.

Contact Samsung support or an authorized service center if the microphone remains muffled or silent after you remove obstructions, dry the phone when appropriate, restart it, and run available diagnostics. Arrange inspection promptly after liquid exposure, especially if the model is not water-resistant or the phone is not working normally. Do not try to fix a persistent problem by pushing into the microphone opening; that can worsen an obstruction or damage the device.
