Samsung OLED S95H vs LG G-series OLED: Which Is Better for Gaming?

Samsung S95H favors reflection control, while LG G6 adds Dolby Vision and documented four-port HDMI 2.1 connectivity. Both advertise 165Hz-class VRR, but no controlled test establishes a gaming-performance winner.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no evidence-based universal winner. Choose Samsung’s 2026 OLED S95H when reflection control and bright-room play are your priorities. Choose LG’s 2026 OLED evo G6 when Dolby Vision or a documented four-port HDMI 2.1 setup matters. Both manufacturers specify 4K-class gaming refresh rates up to 165Hz with variable-refresh support, but the available sources do not provide a controlled, like-for-like test of input lag, VRR stability, or console compatibility.

Your best choice depends on the exact regional model, HDR format requirements, room lighting, number of high-bandwidth devices, and same-size local price—not the 165Hz headline by itself.

What Samsung S95H and LG G6 officially promise

Samsung S95H: 165Hz, G-SYNC Compatible and FreeSync Premium Pro

Samsung’s global announcement dated February 2, 2026, says its 2026 S95H and S90H OLED televisions support refresh rates up to 165Hz. It identifies the S95H as NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and says the lineup supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Samsung describes G-SYNC as synchronizing the display’s refresh cycle with the frame rate from a compatible NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, reducing tearing and stutter. Those statements are company specifications, not proof that every game or device will reach 165Hz.

The US product page identifies the 2026 65-inch S95H as a 4K OLED television and describes OLED HDR Pro and Glare Free. It offers 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch sizes in the US listing. Port-by-port bandwidth and a complete equivalent inventory of gaming inputs were not established in the cited Samsung sources, so do not assume every size or country version has identical connectivity.

LG G6: 4K/165Hz VRR, G-SYNC and FreeSync Premium

LG’s 2026 US launch announcement lists 4K 165Hz VRR, NVIDIA G-SYNC, and AMD FreeSync Premium for the G6. It also lists Dolby Vision support and US sizes of 55, 65, 77, 83, and 97 inches. LG’s announcement describes a five-year panel warranty, but warranty coverage and terms are market-specific; confirm them with the seller or local LG documentation.

What Hi-Fi?’s review of a UK G6 lists four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs, 4K/165Hz and 4K/120Hz modes, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision game mode, and HGiG. Those details belong to the reviewed UK configuration. Treat them as a useful reference rather than a guarantee for every G6 sold worldwide.

HDR format: when Dolby Vision changes the decision

The G6 has the clearer format advantage if Dolby Vision is part of your gaming chain. LG lists Dolby Vision in its launch material, and the reviewed G6 includes a Dolby Vision game mode. HGiG is also listed for that reviewed configuration, which can help a compatible game and display follow the intended HDR tone-mapping approach.

Tom’s Guide identifies the lack of Dolby Vision as a limitation of the S95H, and the cited independent S95H review likewise says Dolby Vision is absent. That does not make the S95H incapable of HDR gaming; it means Dolby Vision titles and devices will use another supported HDR path. The practical question is whether your console, PC game, or other source actually outputs Dolby Vision and whether you prefer its implementation. If your games use HDR10 instead, Dolby Vision support may have no effect on your purchase.

Do not treat a television’s format label as a guarantee of a better HDR image in every game. Console output settings, the game’s own HDR calibration, the television’s picture mode, and the source device all influence the result. Use the format your games support and calibrate that source rather than selecting on the name alone.

Reflection control and room lighting

Samsung markets the S95H with Glare Free treatment. In TechRadar’s July 2026 hands-on comparison of the Samsung S95H/S99H and LG G6, both televisions reduced reflections effectively, but the reviewer found Samsung’s matte screen more effective at eliminating visible reflections. TechRadar also reported that the G6 maintained black tones better while reducing reflections.

That produces a practical room-based split. A television opposite a window, in a bright living room, or beside lamps may benefit more from the S95H’s reflection suppression. A darker room, or a setup where preserving deep-looking blacks during incidental reflections matters more, may suit the G6’s behavior. TechRadar’s observation was a picture comparison, not a controlled gaming session, so it does not establish a lower gaming latency or a superior VRR experience for either model.

Connections for a gaming setup

When four HDMI 2.1 inputs matter

The reviewed UK G6 is documented with four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs. That is useful if you want to connect several high-bandwidth sources directly to the television, such as a gaming PC and multiple current consoles, while retaining 4K high-refresh and VRR capability without repeatedly moving cables. The same review lists ALLM, which lets a compatible source request a low-latency game mode automatically.

Because the four-port specification comes from one UK review, check the exact model code, regional manual, and input labels before buying. A retailer’s generic “G6” description may cover different sizes or markets.

What is known about S95H ports

The cited Samsung material confirms the S95H’s gaming refresh and VRR claims but does not provide a comparable port-by-port bandwidth table. Before recommending it for a multi-device setup, open the support page for your country and exact size, then verify which inputs support the resolution and refresh rate you need. If you use an AV receiver, soundbar, capture card, or HDMI switch, check the entire signal path—not only the television’s headline specification.

Connection checklist

  1. Match the television size and full regional model code to the product page or manual.
  2. Connect the PC or console to an input documented for the required 4K refresh rate and VRR mode.
  3. Use a certified cable appropriate for the bandwidth of your target mode, and remove intermediate switches while troubleshooting.
  4. On the source device, enable 4K output, VRR, and automatic low-latency mode where those options are available.
  5. On a GeForce PC, enable G-SYNC for the connected display; on a compatible Radeon system, enable FreeSync. The exact driver labels can change.
  6. Set the game’s refresh-rate option to a mode the source and television both report. A game cannot reach 165Hz merely because the panel advertises it.
  7. Run the console or operating system’s display-information screen and confirm the active resolution, refresh rate, HDR state, and VRR state.

What the available evidence does—and does not—prove about gaming performance

Established facts

  • Samsung claims up to 165Hz, G-SYNC Compatible, and FreeSync Premium Pro for the S95H.
  • LG claims 4K 165Hz VRR, G-SYNC, and FreeSync Premium for the G6.
  • A reviewed UK G6 is listed with four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision game mode, and HGiG.
  • Independent reviewers compared reflection behavior and picture measurements, not both televisions’ gaming latency under identical conditions.

Not established in a like-for-like test

  • Which television has lower input lag at 4K/120Hz or 4K/165Hz.
  • Which model maintains VRR more consistently across specific GPUs and consoles.
  • Whether one model has better compatibility with every console, graphics card, or game.
  • Whether Samsung’s and LG’s regional versions expose identical HDMI bandwidth and gaming menus.

Therefore, claims that one is definitively faster, has more stable VRR, or is the better console television would go beyond the cited evidence. The manufacturer compatibility labels are useful when matching a source device, but they are not substitutes for a controlled head-to-head measurement.

Picture measurements that may matter to PC gamers

TechRadar measured the Samsung S95H/S99H at 99.97% UHDA-P3 and 89.3% BT.2020 HDR color-gamut coverage. In the same comparison, the G6 measured 99.3% UHDA-P3 and 83% BT.2020 coverage after its most recent update as of July 3, 2026. These are TechRadar measurements, not manufacturer figures, and they describe color coverage rather than response time, input lag, or VRR stability.

TechRadar also reported stronger Samsung fullscreen brightness in its reviewed picture modes, while observing peak-area brightness advantages for the G6 in some scenes. Because brightness behavior depends on the test pattern, picture mode, firmware, and content, use those results as context for HDR image preference—not as a gaming-performance score.

Size, regional names and model-code traps

Model names are not globally uniform. TechRadar notes that the Samsung successor is called S95H in the US and S99H in the UK, while a separate UK S95H model also exists. Compare the complete model code, screen size, tuner or broadcast specification, stand or wall-mount package, and warranty rather than relying on “S95H” alone.

Samsung’s US listing shows 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch S95H sizes. LG’s US announcement lists 55-, 65-, 77-, 83-, and 97-inch G6 sizes. A size available in one market may not have the same price, ports, included stand, or firmware as a similarly named model elsewhere.

Price and value: compare like for like

LG announced a US G6 launch MSRP starting at $2,499. Samsung’s US product page displayed $3,399.99 for the 65-inch S95H when accessed. These are different kinds of evidence: LG’s figure is a starting launch MSRP, while Samsung’s is a volatile listing price for a specified 65-inch class. They are not a same-size, same-date street-price comparison.

For a fair purchase decision, record the current price for the same diagonal in the same country on the same date. Include delivery, installation, stand or wall-mount requirements, taxes, and warranty terms. A lower launch MSRP does not prove the G6 is cheaper today, and a higher listing price does not prove the S95H offers worse value.

Which one should you buy?

Choose the Samsung S95H when these conditions dominate

  • Your screen faces windows or strong room lighting and minimizing visible reflections is the first priority.
  • You want Samsung’s advertised Glare Free treatment and the matte-screen behavior observed by TechRadar.
  • Your gaming devices already use HDR formats other than Dolby Vision.
  • You can verify that the exact local S95H inputs meet your PC, console, receiver, and capture-card requirements.
  • The same-size S95H is available at a better current price after a like-for-like check.

Choose the LG G6 when these conditions dominate

  • Your games or devices support Dolby Vision and you specifically want that format or the reviewed Dolby Vision game mode.
  • You need several direct high-bandwidth connections and your local model confirms the reviewed four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs.
  • You prefer the G6’s observed ability to preserve black tones while reducing reflections.
  • Your setup benefits from documented ALLM and HGiG on the exact configuration you are buying.
  • The G6 offers the better same-size, same-date local deal.

Pause and verify before ordering either

  • You require a guaranteed 4K/165Hz mode from a particular GPU, game, or console.
  • You are buying across borders and the model name may refer to a different regional configuration.
  • You plan to route several sources through an AV receiver or HDMI switch.
  • You are choosing solely from a refresh-rate number and have not checked HDR format, ports, room reflections, and current price.

Common buying and setup mistakes

Assuming 165Hz means every game runs at 165 frames per second

The panel’s maximum refresh capability does not create additional frames. The game, GPU, resolution, graphics settings, cable, and operating-system output mode determine the delivered signal. Confirm the active mode in the source device after connecting it.

Buying by family name instead of SKU

S95H, S99H, and G6 labels can cover different markets and sizes. Save the full model code from the retailer and compare it with the manufacturer’s regional support page before paying.

Counting every HDMI socket as identical

Do not assume that an unverified input supports the same bandwidth as the reviewed UK G6 configuration. Check the manual for the exact model and test the desired resolution and refresh rate with your real source.

Using a receiver or switch that removes VRR

If VRR disappears, connect the source directly to the television first. Confirm VRR and refresh rate, then add the receiver or switch and test again. The intermediate device, cable, or its firmware may be the limiting link.

Judging HDR from a single game or demo

Different titles use different HDR pipelines. Calibrate the console or PC game with the television in its appropriate game picture mode, then check more than one title before deciding that a format or model is unsuitable.
