You can make a supported Samsung Galaxy light up for notifications with a screen-edge lighting effect, a camera-flash alert, or a screen flash. On One UI 8, Samsung’s path for adding an effect is Settings > Notifications > Notification pop-up style > Add lighting effect. Menu names and available options vary by model and software version.
Choose where the alert should light up
Samsung’s built-in options do not require a separate notification light or accessory. Pick the one that suits how you want to notice alerts:

- Lighting effect: Adds a visual effect around the screen or camera cutout. Depending on the software, it may appear under the older name Edge lighting.
- Camera flash notification: Blinks the rear camera flash.
- Screen flash notification: Flashes the display.
Samsung says Galaxy S10, Note10, and newer models do not have a dedicated notification LED; these software features are alternatives. Samsung’s US guidance on Edge lighting and LED notifications describes the options.

Set up a lighting effect
One UI 8
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications, then Notification pop-up style.
- Tap Add lighting effect and choose an effect.
That is the route in Samsung Gulf’s One UI 8 guidance. Samsung notes that some effects may be limited when the detailed notification pop-up style is selected.

Menus that use Edge lighting
- Open Settings and go to Notifications > Notification pop-up style.
- Choose Edge lighting style, then select an effect.
- Choose a color, including an automatic or custom option if available.
- Under Advanced, adjust transparency, width, and duration, then tap Done.
To show the effect while the display is off, return to Notification pop-up style, select Brief, and turn on Show even while screen is off. Brief settings can also let you select which apps use brief notifications and assign colors by keyword. These controls and labels are documented in Samsung US Support’s Edge lighting instructions; they may not appear on every Galaxy phone or software build.
Make the camera or screen flash for alerts
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility > Advanced settings > Flash notification.
- Choose Camera flash notification for the rear flash or Screen flash notification for the display.
- If the setting offers app selection, enable alerts for the apps you want.
The labels and route are documented by Samsung Philippines Support. Samsung notes that device menus and screenshots can vary.

If you cannot find the setting or an alert does not glow
- Check the wording for your software version. On One UI 8, search Settings for “lighting effect”; the older terms “Edge” or “Edge lighting” may not find the updated setting. On other versions, try “Edge lighting” or “Flash notification.”
- Check the notification pop-up style. Samsung says detailed pop-ups can limit available lighting effects in One UI 8.
- Check app support. Edge lighting may not work with some third-party apps.
- Account for device and regional differences. Samsung says features and menu availability can vary by model, software version, carrier, and region. If the path differs, consult the manual for your specific Galaxy model.
