If your Samsung Galaxy charges slowly or no longer shows a fast-charging message, check the phone’s fast-charging setting, then verify the adapter and cable match your model. A loose or dirty port, heat, moisture detection, and Battery protection can also slow or stop charging. Menu names and supported charging speeds vary by Galaxy model and software version.
Start with your model and charging method
Fast charging depends on the exact Galaxy model and whether you are charging by cable or wirelessly. A charger’s advertised wattage does not guarantee that your phone supports or will use that rate. Check your model’s specifications and instructions; Samsung’s general accessory tiers below are not supported by every Galaxy phone.

For wired charging, use a wall adapter. Samsung says fast charging does not activate when the phone is connected to a PC or a standard USB port.

Check the fast-charging setting
On supported devices, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and turn on Fast charging. Menu names and screen layouts can differ by model and software version. Samsung says Galaxy S23 series phones and later combine Fast charging and Super fast charging into one setting. For wireless charging, check the relevant fast wireless charging option if your model provides one. Samsung’s instructions for enabling fast charging give more detail, with the qualification that regional guidance and menus may vary.

Match the adapter and cable to your Galaxy
Use an undamaged adapter and cable that support the charging tier available to your particular phone. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide describes these general wired-charging combinations:

Reseat the cable and inspect the port
A cable that is not fully inserted, visible debris, or a damaged accessory can interfere with charging. Disconnect and reconnect both ends firmly, then try a known-compatible, undamaged Samsung adapter and cable if available.
- Unplug the phone and turn it off.
- Use a flashlight to look for visible debris or damage in the charging port.
- If debris is visible, remove it carefully without using metal objects or liquids. Do not force anything into the port.
- Reconnect the cable firmly and check whether charging improves.
If the port looks damaged or you cannot safely clear an obstruction, stop and arrange an inspection rather than probing the connector.

Let the phone cool and keep moisture out
Samsung lists temperature and moisture detection among possible reasons charging can slow down or stop. If the device is hot, disconnect it and let it cool before charging again. If a moisture warning appears, do not charge through the port until it is fully dry; follow the instructions for your specific device. Do not use liquids to clean the port.
Check Battery protection if charging stops early
Battery protection settings can limit the maximum charge level or stop charging early, depending on the option selected. If charging consistently stops at a limit rather than merely taking longer, open your battery settings and review the Battery protection option available on your phone.

Run a diagnostic and get service if needed
If a compatible accessory, setting check, and port inspection do not solve a wired-charging problem, Samsung’s Members app offers a cable-charging diagnostic. Open Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics > Cable charging and follow the prompts. If the issue persists, contact Samsung Support or visit a service center for hardware inspection.
