Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If your Samsung phone keeps disconnecting from mobile data after One UI 8.5, the timing alone does not prove the update caused it. Samsung’s guidance points first to service and coverage, mobile-network settings, the SIM or eSIM, and software or device issues; its reviewed support material does not identify a general One UI 8.5 cellular-data defect. Work through these checks from least disruptive to most involved, and note whether the phone loses signal entirely, keeps signal bars but loses internet, or drops only 5G.
Is One UI 8.5 causing the disconnections?
Not necessarily. Samsung’s official mobile-network guidance lists plan or account eligibility, access region, network mode, SIM/APN configuration, and software among possible causes of mobile connection problems. Its U.S. announcement says the One UI 8.5 rollout began in Korea on May 6, 2026, with other regions following; availability varies by market and model. Firmware histories for U.S. Galaxy S23 and S24-family models show One UI 8.5 builds during 2026, but they do not establish the rollout timing for every device or carrier. There is a separate, narrower One UI 8.5 connectivity reference in Samsung Knox documentation: a managed-device Wi-Fi policy scenario in which a failed background Wi-Fi check can lead to unexpected switching to mobile data or a Wi-Fi warning. Samsung says that particular issue is resolved in Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or later. It is not evidence of a general cellular-data disconnection bug. Samsung Knox documentation
A Samsung Community beta participant has reported losing data connectivity, but an individual post is not prevalence data, a verified diagnosis, or Samsung’s confirmation of a defect. If you are running beta software, treat that as a possible clue and submit a report through Samsung Members. Community post

Try these 12 checks, in order
1. Check your line, plan, and carrier service
Make sure the line is active and the account has no restriction, unpaid balance, or provisioning issue. Confirm your plan includes the data service you expect, including 5G if that is what you are trying to use. Ask the carrier whether there is a local outage or account-side problem. Samsung specifically recommends checking plan and account eligibility with the carrier. Samsung mobile-network troubleshooting
2. Compare service in another location
Test in a second area where your carrier is known to have coverage. If the problem happens only in one place, weak or intermittent coverage is more likely than a phone-wide settings problem. Samsung identifies the access region as one factor in mobile-network trouble. Samsung mobile-network troubleshooting

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

3. Confirm mobile data is on and Airplane mode is off
Open Quick Settings and check that Mobile data is enabled and Airplane mode is disabled. Airplane mode prevents ordinary network connections; toggling it off is not enough if mobile data itself is also switched off. Menu labels can vary by model, carrier, and software version. 4. Restart the phone
Restart the Galaxy phone to clear a temporary connection or system state. This is a low-impact check and does not erase saved data. Samsung includes restarting in its network and SIM troubleshooting guidance. Samsung SIM troubleshooting

5. Install available official software updates
Go to Settings → Software update → Download and install, then follow any available update instructions. Samsung recommends checking for software updates when troubleshooting network issues. Menu wording and update availability differ by device, carrier, and region; an update may not be offered to every Galaxy phone at the same time. Samsung guidance for disconnections and no signal
6. Check whether the SIM or eSIM is recognized
For a physical SIM, turn off the phone before removing it, then check that the card is seated correctly and has no visible damage. Confirm the carrier appears in the phone’s SIM status. For an eSIM, check that the plan is active and correctly provisioned with your carrier; a physical SIM inspection does not apply. If you suspect a faulty card, ask the carrier to test or replace it rather than buying one yourself. Samsung SIM troubleshooting

7. Try a different available network mode
Open Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Network mode and compare the modes available on your phone. The carrier or location may not support every mode consistently. If the phone drops only 5G, testing another offered mode can help narrow down the symptom, but disabling 5G is not a guaranteed fix. Samsung mobile-network troubleshooting
8. Review data roaming only when you are outside your carrier’s home coverage
If you are traveling or outside your carrier’s usual coverage, ask the carrier whether roaming is included and what it costs before enabling data roaming. Settings and charges depend on the carrier and plan. If roaming is not relevant to your location, this is not the first setting to change. Samsung data-usage guidance

9. Reset APNs to their default values
Go to Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Access Point Names → More options → Reset to default. An incorrect access point name (APN) can prevent a data connection. If your carrier, employer, or administrator uses a custom APN, check with them before resetting it, since the custom configuration may be needed. Samsung guidance for disconnections and no signal
10. Reset mobile-network settings
Look under Settings → General management → Reset for Reset mobile network settings; on some software versions, the label or reset option differs. Read the confirmation screen before proceeding. A mobile-only reset can remove customized network configuration; a broader network reset may also affect saved Wi-Fi or Bluetooth data. Samsung mobile-network troubleshooting and Samsung data-usage guidance
11. Run diagnostics and check for an app-related problem
In the Samsung Members app, open Support → Phone diagnostics → Mobile network and run the test. If the problem stops in Safe mode, Samsung says a downloaded app may be responsible. Beta users should send a Samsung Members error report soon after reproducing the issue so relevant logs can be captured. Samsung cautions that beta software may contain bugs and behave unexpectedly; that warning applies to beta testing, not as proof that stable One UI 8.5 is defective. Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute12. Escalate to the carrier or Samsung rather than repeatedly resetting
Ask the carrier to verify line provisioning, account status, local network conditions, SIM or eSIM activation, and the correct APN values. If the carrier finds no service-side problem—or the phone continues to lose connection in multiple coverage areas—contact Samsung support or service for device diagnostics. A factory reset is a later option, not a first response: back up your data first because it erases the phone, and it may not permanently resolve a software or app defect. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use the symptom to narrow down the cause
| What you see | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Signal bars disappear or the phone shows no service | Coverage, carrier outage or account status, SIM/eSIM recognition, and network mode. |
| Signal bars remain but apps cannot reach the internet | Mobile data toggle, plan or provisioning, APN, and mobile-network settings. |
| Only 5G drops or changes to another network type | Available network modes, location coverage, and whether the carrier plan and area support the expected 5G service. |
| The problem occurs only while traveling or outside the home area | Roaming availability, plan terms, and carrier coverage. |
These clues help decide which check to try; they do not establish a diagnosis by themselves. Samsung’s troubleshooting pages also note that exact menu labels can vary by phone and software version. Samsung guidance for disconnections and no signal
