Where are my screenshots saved?
A screenshot made with Windows+PrtSc is saved in Pictures > Screenshots, according to Microsoft’s Windows instructions. By contrast, pressing PrtSc alone generally copies the image to the clipboard, so it may not appear as a file until you paste and save it.
Recent Snipping Tool captures are automatically saved to the Screenshots folder according to Microsoft’s support page. To change whether captures are saved automatically or to change the default Screenshots folder, open Snipping Tool, select Settings, and adjust its save settings. You can also use Save as in Snipping Tool to choose a location for an individual image. See Microsoft’s save and settings instructions and its Print Screen shortcut guidance.

What if the screenshot shortcut does not work?
- PrtSc appears to do nothing: It may have copied the image to the clipboard rather than saved a file. Open Paint or another app and press Ctrl+V. Samsung describes this clipboard behavior in its keyboard shortcut instructions.
- Your keyboard has no PrtSc key: Microsoft documents Fn+Windows+Space as an alternative on devices without one. The key combination depends on the device; see Microsoft’s shortcut list.
- You are unsure whether Fn is needed: Look for a secondary Print Screen label on a shared key and try the Fn version. Samsung’s instructions cover Fn combinations, but keyboard layouts vary across laptops.
- You only need one window: If the documented Alt+PrtSc combination does not work on your keyboard, open Windows+Shift+S and choose Window mode.
- An app or video refuses capture: Capture is not guaranteed to work in every application or with protected content. Restrictions may be imposed by the app or content; check that app’s own guidance.
