Samsung has periodically notified users that it may delete Samsung Accounts that appear inactive for a long period. If you use Samsung services only occasionally—or you upgraded phones and stopped signing in on the new device—you could be at risk.
This guide shows how to keep your Samsung Account active with concrete actions you can complete today: sign in on the devices and web pages where Samsung expects account activity, refresh your security settings, and confirm the email/phone tied to the account still works.

What it means when Samsung says it will delete inactive accounts
When Samsung talks about deleting inactive accounts, it typically means the account hasn’t had recent authenticated usage. “Inactive” usually isn’t just about owning a Galaxy phone—it’s about sign-ins and account usage recognized by Samsung’s servers.
Policies and time windows can vary by region and account status. If you received an email, in-app message, or notification in your Samsung Account portal, follow that specific guidance first, because it reflects your account’s current state.

Before you start: what you need to check
- Which Samsung Account is at stake: Email address or Samsung ID you expect to keep.
- Your access method: Do you still have the same email and phone number?
- Two-step verification: If enabled, make sure you can receive codes or use your approved method.
- Devices you still use: Galaxy phone, Galaxy tablet, Galaxy Watch, smart TV apps, and any Samsung software where you stay signed in.
If you aren’t sure which account is in use, check your Galaxy device settings for the account listed under Accounts and backup and Samsung account.
Fastest ways to keep your Samsung Account active
Most “inactive account” cleanup processes rely on server-side sign-in/activity signals. The most reliable actions are authenticated logins—on at least one current Galaxy device and in your Samsung Account web portal.
Log in on a Galaxy device using the same Samsung Account
Open Settings on your Galaxy phone (or tablet) and confirm the device is signed into the same Samsung Account you want to keep. Then make a deliberate sign-in action and allow account sync.

A web sign-in is a clean signal that Samsung can verify. Use a modern browser and complete any prompts like CAPTCHA or security verification.
Re-verify sign-in and security settings
If you have an older security setup (old phone/email, outdated verification method), fix it. Accounts can look “stale” when verification routes stop working.
Use the account in a Samsung app you already use
Services tied to your Samsung Account—like Galaxy Store purchases, Samsung Cloud, Find My Mobile features, or sign-in to Samsung apps—can contribute to recognized activity.
Update your registered phone number and email
Even if you log in, failing to maintain reachable contact details can cause verification problems that slow you down when Samsung sends prompts.

Step-by-step: keep your Samsung Account active on Galaxy (Android / One UI)
These steps are written for current One UI wording. Menu names can differ slightly by model and software version, but the path is usually consistent.
1) Confirm the account is actually the one you care about
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup.
- Tap Manage accounts.
- Find Samsung account and confirm the email/Samsung ID shown.
If you see the wrong account, add the correct one and remove the old one only if you’re confident you won’t need it elsewhere.
2) Make a fresh sign-in action
- In Settings, go to Accounts and backup.
- Select Samsung account.
- Look for a button or option like Sign in or Sync (wording varies).
- Complete the login prompt and enter your credentials.
- Confirm any verification prompts (email/phone/2-step verification).
After signing in, give the phone a moment to finish sync before you switch to other apps.
3) Check Samsung Account security status
- Open Settings → Accounts and backup → Samsung account.
- Tap Security (or Security and privacy).
- Verify the status of Two-step verification.
- Confirm the phone number and email listed are still yours.
If you can’t receive codes, fix your recovery options right away—getting locked out is one of the most common causes of failed “save my account” attempts.
4) Confirm the device is allowed to sync
- Go to Settings → Accounts and backup → Samsung account.
- Find Sync or service toggles tied to Samsung Cloud or related features.
- Ensure required sync switches are enabled.
This doesn’t mean you need to move photos or backups every day; it means the account has a working path to sign in and communicate.
Step-by-step: keep your Samsung Account active on the web
Web sign-in is often the most straightforward way to prove activity, because it doesn’t depend on a specific device integration.
1) Sign in at account.samsung.com
- On your computer or phone browser, go to
https://account.samsung.com. - Tap or click Sign in.
- Enter your Samsung Account email/Samsung ID.
- Complete the password step.
- Complete any verification prompt (2-step verification, CAPTCHA, or email code).
Once signed in, don’t just bounce immediately. Spend 1–2 minutes navigating to security/account pages to trigger authenticated session activity.

3) If prompted, complete verification immediately
If Samsung asks you to confirm a phone number or email, complete it the same day. Delayed verification often fails later when codes expire or contact access changes.
If you have multiple Samsung Accounts
People commonly end up with more than one Samsung ID—especially after using different emails, creating accounts for work devices, or switching from a previous provider.
- On your Galaxy device: verify which Samsung Account is signed in under Accounts and backup.
- On the web: sign out and sign in using the account that received the warning.
- In your email: search for messages containing Samsung account deletion or inactivity notifications to identify the exact address involved.
If you save the wrong account, you may still lose the one you actually care about.
Troubleshooting: what to do when the main method fails
If you can’t sign in or the portal keeps rejecting your attempts, focus on account access first. Fixing authentication is what restores your ability to create “active” signals.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou can sign in on one device but not another
- Check that both devices use the same Samsung ID.
- On the device that fails, remove and re-add the Samsung account (only if you’re comfortable doing so).
- Confirm system date and time are correct (wrong time can break verification flows).
If you have a browser that succeeds at account.samsung.com but a device fails, that usually points to device-side sync or account setup rather than a Samsung outage.
You forgot your password or got locked out
- Go to
https://account.samsung.com. - Select Forgot your password?
- Choose password reset via email or phone (whichever you still have access to).
- Complete the reset and immediately sign in on both web and your Galaxy device.
If you receive a “try again later” message, wait the required period and avoid repeated rapid attempts that can extend lockouts.

You lost access to the email/phone used by the account
Recover access before you attempt activity actions. If you can’t receive verification codes, you can’t complete sign-in—and Samsung can’t reliably confirm activity.
- Use the account portal recovery options on
account.samsung.com. - Contact Samsung Account support through the official Samsung website if recovery fails.
- Prepare proof details you might be asked for (exact requirements vary by country).
Don’t try to create a new account to “replace” the old one if your warning is for a specific Samsung ID tied to devices and purchases.
2-step verification is blocking you
- Confirm the code delivery method (SMS, authenticator, or approved backup method).
- Check signal and roaming status for SMS codes.
- If you have a backup method, use it immediately.
- Once signed in, update security and recovery options so you don’t depend on a single channel.
If you no longer have access to the 2-step method, follow recovery steps on the account portal before trying to keep activity.
Your account already shows deletion-related status
Sometimes the warning message means Samsung has already flagged the account. In that scenario, act fast: you’ll typically need to sign in, confirm identity, and possibly update recovery details.
- Sign in at
account.samsung.comusing the account that received the notification. - Complete every prompt shown in the portal—especially identity verification.
- Log in on a Galaxy device with the same account right after the web sign-in.
- If the portal provides a “cancel deletion” or similar action, follow it immediately.
If you don’t see such an option, still verify your security settings and keep signing in—some processes change based on authenticated activity.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common mistakes that still lead to inactivity
- Signing in on the wrong account: Especially if you have multiple emails.
- Only logging in on a device that you later remove: If a device is logged out or factory reset, the account activity signal may stop.
- Ignoring verification prompts: “Later” often means codes expire and logins can fail.
- Relying on passive usage: Not making an explicit sign-in/authenticated session can be treated as inactivity.
- Letting recovery details go stale: If Samsung can’t reach your email/phone, it can break the verification path during account changes.
How to set a practical reminder system (so you don’t have to think about it)
Because you may not remember which accounts are at risk, use a lightweight schedule. A yearly reminder is often enough for people who still use Samsung services occasionally, while quarterly checks help if you rarely touch the account.
- Create a calendar reminder titled Check Samsung Account activity.
- Set it for a cadence you can maintain (example: every 3 months).
- On reminder day: sign in at
https://account.samsung.comand confirm your email/phone and 2-step verification are still working.
If you already use password managers, also consider storing the Samsung account credentials and any recovery methods so you can complete verification quickly.

FAQ
How can I tell if my Samsung Account is flagged for deletion?
You’ll usually see it in the Samsung Account portal or via notifications tied to the account email. If you received an email about inactivity, it generally references the specific Samsung ID involved—match the address to avoid confusion.
Does simply owning a Galaxy phone keep my Samsung Account active?
Owning the device isn’t the same as authenticated account activity. You want a successful sign-in and an account session that Samsung can verify server-side—web and Galaxy sign-in are the most reliable actions.
Will using Samsung Cloud, Find My Mobile, or Galaxy Store prevent deletion?
These features are often connected to your Samsung Account and can generate recognized activity, but the safest approach is still to complete an explicit sign-in on both your device and account.samsung.com.

Fix account recovery first. If you can’t receive verification codes, you may not be able to sign in and stop deletion. Use the recovery options on account.samsung.com and update recovery details once access is restored.
Can I avoid deletion by creating a new Samsung Account?
Creating a new account doesn’t usually reverse deletion for an already-flagged Samsung ID. The best outcome comes from signing in to the original account that received the inactivity warning and completing any required verification.
Bottom Line
To save your Samsung Account from inactivity deletion, don’t guess—create authenticated activity. Sign in at account.samsung.com, confirm the same account is signed into your Galaxy device, and update security/recovery details so verification works.
If you’re locked out, resolve password and 2-step verification first. Once you can sign in successfully, repeat the process on web and on your phone to give Samsung the clearest signal that your account is still in use.
