The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 appeared in the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s equipment-authorization database on May 7, 2025. The filing indicated LTE, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and NFC support, listed a 5V/2A (10W) charging input, and identified Samsung’s EP-OL300 charger as compatible. It was meaningful evidence that Samsung was preparing hardware for release, but it was not an announcement, price confirmation or exact launch date.
What database did the Galaxy Watch 8 appear in?
This was the FCC’s equipment-authorization database, which records radio-frequency compliance work for products intended for the U.S. market. Unlike a rumor database, an FCC filing is tied to a real regulatory process. Depending on what Samsung makes public, such filings can expose wireless standards, LTE bands, model numbers, applicant information, battery or charging details, and product photographs.
The filing therefore made the Watch 8’s U.S. market preparation more credible. It did not mean Samsung had formally announced the watch or approved it for sale worldwide. Read the contemporary report at Android Authority.
What the FCC filing revealed
Wireless connectivity
Reporting on the filing described testing or support for LTE on cellular versions, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 Low Energy and NFC, along with compatible LTE bands. The exact radio configuration can vary by model: a Bluetooth-only Watch 8 will not necessarily have the modem, bands or carrier-activation requirements of an LTE version. Forbes also reported the Bluetooth, NFC and LTE-band information in its FCC coverage.

Charging input listed as 5V/2A
The filing reported an input of 5 volts at 2 amps, which is 10 watts when multiplied. That figure describes an input or accessory rating, not a guaranteed 10W charging rate at the watch. Actual charging draw and charging time depend on the charger, alignment, battery state, thermal limits and software. It should not be turned into a promise that the Watch 8 charges faster than the Galaxy Watch 7.
EP-OL300 charger compatibility
The filing indicated compatibility with Samsung’s EP-OL300 smartwatch charger. That suggested some continuity for owners of that specifically identified accessory. It did not establish that every older Samsung puck, third-party magnetic charger, phone reverse-wireless-charging feature or case would work.
How much did the filing say about launch timing?
An FCC appearance is a strong sign that hardware is developed enough for regulatory testing and that a commercial release is plausible. It is still weaker evidence than an official announcement or retail availability.

- Certification filing: stronger evidence that physical hardware exists and is being prepared for a market.
- Samsung announcement: official confirmation of the product.
- Retail listing or shipping: evidence that customers can buy or receive it.
In May 2025, the filing supported “launch preparation,” not a specific date. Samsung later announced the Galaxy Watch 8 series on July 9, 2025, and shipping began on July 25, 2025. Samsung’s subsequent business documentation records the Watch8 and Watch8 Classic as July 2025 products: Samsung Electronics’ report.
What the FCC filing did not prove
- It did not establish the exact launch date or retail price.
- It did not reveal battery life or the complete health-sensor and software feature set.
- It did not prove every Watch 8 model had the same radios, bands or charging behavior.
- It did not confirm availability in the United Kingdom, Europe, India, Australia or every other market; those regions can require separate certifications.
- It did not independently verify the rumored Ultra-inspired “squircle” design.
Other Watch8-series database appearances
Several reports combined separate certification events with the FCC story. They should be treated as related clues, not as information contained in the FCC filing itself.
SafetyKorea battery listings
Reports in April 2025 said battery information for both the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic appeared in South Korea’s SafetyKorea database. See Sam Lover’s report.

Bluetooth SIG listing for the Classic
The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic was also reported in the Bluetooth SIG certification database. Separate coverage associated the model with a return of Samsung’s physical rotating bezel: Android Central and Forbes.
What Samsung later confirmed
The following specifications are retrospective facts from Samsung documentation. They were not all available from the May FCC appearance.

What the filing means for buyers
Choose the correct connectivity variant
- Check the exact model number and country listing.
- Decide whether you need LTE or Bluetooth-only service.
- For LTE, verify carrier smartwatch activation and supported bands.
Interpret the charging number carefully
The reported 10W input is useful information about the charging hardware, but it is not a measured charging-speed result. Buyers should judge charging time only from documented device behavior, not the wattage printed in a certification filing.
Consider the physical differences
The regular Watch8 is the lighter, smaller option in 40mm and 44mm sizes. The 46mm Classic adds the rotating bezel and traditional styling but weighs 63.5g and may be less comfortable on smaller wrists. Samsung also lists the 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra with a 47mm form factor and 590mAh battery for buyers who prioritize a larger, rugged outdoor watch over a thin everyday model; those details appear in the same Samsung business report.
Bottom line
The May 7, 2025 FCC appearance was a meaningful regulatory signal: it exposed practical radio and charging information and showed that Samsung was moving the Galaxy Watch 8 toward a U.S. release. It was not a full specification leak, a guarantee of 10W real-world charging, or proof of a worldwide launch. Samsung’s July 9 announcement and July 25 shipping date later supplied the confirmation that the FCC filing could not.
