On most Samsung Galaxy phones, press and release the Side or Power button and Volume Down at the same time. For a long screenshot, take a regular capture and tap Scroll capture if the control appears. Other options—including a palm swipe, S Pen, or voice command—depend on your model and settings.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
Press the Side or Power button and Volume Down together, then release both promptly. The screen may flash or show a preview or toolbar when the capture succeeds. Samsung notes that button positions vary by model, so check the instructions for your specific Galaxy if the combination does not work.

Use Palm swipe to capture
Some Galaxy phones support a hand gesture for screenshots. To check, open Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures and look for Palm swipe to capture. Turn it on if available, then swipe the edge of your hand across the screen. The setting may be absent on models that do not support the gesture; searching Settings for its name can help when menu labels differ.

Capture with an S Pen
On a compatible Galaxy device with an S Pen, open Air Command and select Screen write to capture the display and annotate it. This option is limited to devices that support an S Pen and should not be expected on every Galaxy phone. Samsung describes the feature in its device screenshot instructions.
Ask a voice assistant
Bixby or Google Assistant may be able to take a screenshot on a device where the assistant is configured and supports the request. Availability depends on the assistant, device, and setup; the button combination remains the most direct option when voice capture is unavailable.

Take a long screenshot of scrollable content
- Open the page or app and position it where you want the capture to begin.
- Take a regular screenshot using a supported method.
- If the screenshot toolbar displays Scroll capture, tap it to extend the image downward. Tap again as needed to capture more content.
- Stop when you have captured the section you need, then use the preview or toolbar to review the result.
Scroll capture is conditional: it appears for supported content that extends beyond one screen, and may not be available in some apps or websites. If the control is missing, the current screen may not be scrollable in a supported way.

Samsung says screenshots are saved in Gallery. Samsung’s Canada guidance also points to My Files as a place to locate them. Tap the capture preview or use the available toolbar to edit, draw, crop, or share; the controls shown can vary by model and software version.

When screenshots do not work
- The button combination does nothing: Press Side/Power and Volume Down simultaneously and release promptly. Check your model’s button layout and instructions; older devices with a physical Home button may use a different combination.
- A screen refuses to capture: Some apps and screens block screenshots for privacy or security, including some banking apps. A refusal may be intentional, and there is not always a permitted capture method. Samsung also notes that Secure Folder behavior can vary with device, software version, and provider.
- Palm swipe is missing or ineffective: Search Settings for “Palm swipe to capture.” If the option is not present, the phone may not support it.
- Scroll capture is not shown: The feature requires supported scrollable content. It may not appear in every app or on every screen.
