Choose the Galaxy S25 for lighter handling and optical zoom
The clearest reasons to favor Samsung are the S25’s published 162 g weight and its dedicated 3× optical telephoto lens. That combination suits someone who wants a lighter-feeling handset or regularly frames distant subjects without relying only on digital processing. Samsung lists the phone at 70.5 × 146.9 × 7.2 mm; Google cautions that Pixel 9 dimensions and weight vary by configuration and manufacturing process, so check the exact model if size is a deciding factor. Camera differences: optical reach versus two-camera versatility
The Galaxy S25 has three rear cameras: a 50 MP wide camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom. The Pixel 9 has a 50 MP main camera and a 48 MP ultra-wide camera, but no dedicated telephoto lens. Google lists Super Res Zoom up to 8×; that is not the same hardware as an optical telephoto camera. Camera results also depend on the scene and image processing, not just the lens list or megapixel totals. In its published sample discussion, Tom’s Guide described the Pixel 9 daylight example as more colorful, while the S25 image appeared brighter and showed more cloud definition. Battery capacity is not the same as battery life
Samsung lists a 4,000 mAh battery for the base Galaxy S25. Google lists 4,700 mAh typical capacity for the Pixel 9 and says the figure is an estimate based on testing and expected cell behavior. Long support, with different start dates
Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the Galaxy S25, counted from its global launch date. Google promises seven years of updates for Pixel 9, counted from the date it first became available on the Google Store in the US. These are differently worded commitments with different starting points, so the shared seven-year figure does not mean the phones necessarily receive support through the same calendar date. How to compare their prices fairly
There is no reliable current price winner from launch-era references. Before buying, compare live local offers for the same storage capacity and the same unlocked or carrier-locked status. Include the warranty and final checkout price, and check the exact regional model and package contents.
