Its AI features add useful shortcuts, but they are not consistently reliable and may not be available everywhere. The camera hardware is largely unchanged from the Galaxy S24, so the S25 is a more convincing choice for buyers who want a smaller phone than for S24 owners seeking a major camera upgrade.
What the Galaxy S25 offers
Samsung’s US specification sheet lists the base Galaxy S25 with a 6.2-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, 12 GB of memory and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. It launched with Android 15 and One UI 7.0. Storage and color options can vary by market and sales channel.

The 6.2-inch size is a central part of the phone’s appeal: The Guardian’s February 2025 review describes it as small, thin and light for a flagship. It is a fit for people who prefer a more manageable phone without giving up high-end processing power.
Is performance a meaningful upgrade?
The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is the S25’s clearest hardware advance. Samsung said in January 2025 that, compared with the previous generation, it delivers a 40% NPU performance increase, a 37% CPU increase and a 30% GPU increase. These are Samsung’s comparative claims, not independently measured results. Samsung also described a vapor chamber 40% larger than the prior generation.

Tom’s Guide reported substantial performance and battery improvements over the S24, while cautioning that S24 owners may not have enough reason to upgrade. The S25 makes more sense if you are replacing an older phone or specifically want the newer processor and its performance headroom than if your S24 is already meeting your needs.
How good are the cameras?
The rear-camera specifications are 50 MP wide with optical image stabilization, 12 MP ultrawide and 10 MP telephoto with optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom. The Guardian says this combination is unchanged from the S24 and describes the cameras as generally good.

The practical trade-off is zoom reach. A 3x telephoto lens gives you a dedicated zoom camera, but some competing phones offer 5x reach. If photographing distant subjects is a priority, compare actual camera systems rather than assuming that a flagship label means longer optical zoom.

Samsung introduced multimodal Gemini interactions across text, speech, images and video, with Gemini able to work with Samsung and Google apps. The S25 series also includes Circle to Search contextual actions, Writing Assist, Drawing Assist, Now Brief, Now Bar and Call Transcript. These tools can make common tasks—such as searching from something on screen or drafting text—more convenient.

They should not be treated as dependable agents. The Guardian found that Gemini could handle cross-app tasks but also trip over simple details and confidently produce false information. Check AI-generated answers, especially before relying on them for factual or consequential decisions.
Access varies by country or region, software version, device model and carrier; some functions require a Samsung Account or network connection, and Gemini language and extension capabilities vary. Samsung’s launch notice said Galaxy AI features would be free through the end of 2025 on supported devices, but that period has passed. Do not assume current pricing or terms without checking Samsung’s latest information.

Battery life and software support
Samsung lists a typical battery capacity of 4,000 mAh. In Tom’s Guide’s 2025 continuous cellular web-browsing rundown, which ran from full to empty, the S25 lasted 15 hours and 43 minutes—more than two hours longer than the S24 in that publication’s test. That is one controlled test result, not a guarantee of how long the phone will last in your own mix of apps, signal conditions and settings.
Samsung states that the S25 will receive seven years of OS and security updates. This is the manufacturer’s stated support period, rather than an independent estimate.

Should you buy the Galaxy S25?
Consider the S25 if a relatively small premium Android phone, high performance, a conventional 3x telephoto and Samsung’s stated long-term support match what you want. Its strongest case is the combination of compact size and flagship-class hardware, with AI features as an optional convenience layer.
Be more cautious if you already own an S24: the camera setup is largely the same, and the available review evidence does not establish a compelling reason for every S24 owner to upgrade. If you need longer zoom reach, compare 5x-camera alternatives. And because newer Galaxy generations have since launched, the S25 cannot be called the top Android phone for most people in October 2026 without a current comparison of models and prices; those current prices and rankings are not established here.
