The Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra do not share one confirmed “master bug.” Current complaints cluster around post-update battery drain, heat, charging, Android Auto, wireless connections, camera processing, and interface behavior. Most reports depend on the exact model, country, carrier firmware, One UI build, app version, cable, vehicle, or accessory.
Use this tracker as a diagnosis guide, not a defect count. A Samsung Community, Reddit, or Google Android Auto post proves that someone experienced a symptom; it does not establish how common it is or prove a hardware fault.
Covered: Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. This page does not silently include the S24 FE, S23, S25, or S26 families.
Record before troubleshooting: model number (such as SM-S921U, SM-S921U1, SM-S921B, SM-S926U, or SM-S928U), carrier or unlocked status, country, Android and One UI versions, security patch level, full build number, affected app version, and any vehicle or accessory model.

How to read the status labels
- Confirmed: Samsung or Google documents the issue or a fix specifically addressing it.
- Strongly correlated: Independent reports share a model, build, timing, and reproduction pattern, but there is no official confirmation.
- Reported: A credible individual or small group describes the symptom.
- Unverified: Evidence is anecdotal, contradictory, or not reproducible.
- Not a bug / expected behavior: Settings, compatibility limits, hardware differences, or normal thermal behavior explain it.
- Resolved: A later update or configuration change appears to correct it.
- Monitoring: No verified fix or current status is established.
Check your exact S24 software first
- Open Settings → About phone → Software information.
- Write down the model number, Android version, One UI version, security patch level, and build number.
- Open the affected app’s store listing and record its version. For Android Auto, also record Google Play services.
- Note the country, carrier, wired or wireless connection, vehicle/head-unit model, and the date the symptom began.
Samsung’s international SM-S921B history shows Android 16 and One UI 8.5 releases in 2026, including S921BXXUEDZDR released May 18, 2026. Samsung warns that content and availability vary by model, country, and service provider: Samsung Galaxy S24 firmware history. A build listed for SM-S921B is not proof that the same fix exists for a US SM-S921U or SM-S921U1.

Battery drain and standby loss
Status: Reported, monitoring. Users describe rapid overnight loss, high background usage, drain after a major One UI update, and battery percentage changes that seem erratic. Recent coverage describes S24 Ultra battery and heat complaints after the July 2026 security update, but not every device was affected and no published Samsung defect bulletin establishes causation: Android Central report.
Drain can follow app re-optimization, indexing, synchronization, weak 5G signal, GPS, high brightness, gaming, camera use, or wireless charging. It is not automatically a defective battery.
Safe diagnostic sequence
- Open Settings → Battery → Battery usage and capture the graph and top consumers.
- Update apps in both Google Play Store and Galaxy Store, then restart.
- Test one normal charge cycle rather than judging the phone immediately after a major update.
- For one day, test with a stronger signal or 5G disabled, limited location access, Always On Display off, and recently installed apps removed.
- Use Safe mode to see whether a downloaded app is responsible.
- Run Samsung Members diagnostics and preserve screenshots before any reset.
Severe idle drain together with abnormal heat, charging slowdowns, swelling, shutdowns, or rapid percentage collapse warrants service rather than more optimization.
Overheating and thermal throttling
Status: Reported, monitoring. Warmth during gaming, camera recording, navigation, hotspot use, or fast charging can be normal. More concerning patterns are heat while idle, repeated temperature warnings, sudden frame-rate drops, reduced charging speed, or heat that began immediately after an update. The July 2026 association remains user-reported, not an established universal fault: Samsung Galaxy S24 community.
- Remove a thick case temporarily and stop camera, gaming, navigation, or hotspot use.
- Test wired charging while the phone is cool and out of direct sun.
- Check Battery usage for a runaway app and test Safe mode.
- Do not use a freezer or other extreme cooling method.
- Stop using the phone and seek service for swelling, smoke, chemical smell, or extreme idle heat.
Slow, failed, or inconsistent charging
Status: Accessory-, temperature-, and port-dependent until proven otherwise. Symptoms include missing “Super fast charging,” repeated connect/disconnect cycles, unreliable wireless charging, moisture warnings, or a cable that works only at an angle. Samsung says speed depends on the adapter and cable and recommends appropriate accessories, enabled charging settings, a cool device, and a clean USB-C connector: Samsung charging guidance.
- Open Settings → Battery → Charging settings and confirm Fast charging or Fast wireless charging is enabled.
- Test a known-good Samsung charger, USB-C cable, and wall outlet.
- Inspect the port for lint, corrosion, or moisture; never scrape it with metal.
- Compare wired and wireless charging while the phone is cool and idle.
- Run Samsung Members diagnostics.
Samsung recommends genuine accessories; that is a support recommendation, not proof that every third-party charger is unsafe. A loose connector with multiple known-good cables points toward a port or cable fault, not a software bug.

Android Auto freezing, stuttering, or disconnecting
Status: Strongly correlated for particular software and vehicle combinations, not confirmed as an S24-wide defect. Android Auto depends on phone firmware, the Android Auto build, Google Play services, USB cable or wireless adapter, car receiver, and head-unit firmware. A July 30, 2026 community report describes an Android 16 Galaxy S24 that worked on Android Auto 17.1 but froze and stuttered on 17.2 and later test versions with the same equipment: Google Android Auto Community report. Other S24 and S24+ disconnection and USB-permission reports vary by vehicle and update: disconnection report, USB-permission report, and stuttering report.
Test the whole connection chain
- Use a high-quality USB-C data cable shorter than 3 feet (1 meter); avoid hubs and extensions.
- Restart the phone and vehicle head unit, then check car or receiver firmware.
- In Android Auto, choose Previously connected cars → Forget all cars, then pair again.
- If wireless fails, test wired; if wired fails, test another compatible vehicle or head unit when possible.
- Record Android Auto and Google Play services versions and whether Wi‑Fi remains connected while projection freezes.
- Check Google’s Android Auto known-issues page before treating the symptom as Samsung-specific.
Google notes that not every USB-equipped vehicle supports Android Auto and advises checking the vehicle or receiver manufacturer: official Android Auto troubleshooting.
Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, hotspot, and mobile-network problems
Status: Reported, with no universal S24 defect established. Separate Wi‑Fi disconnects, internet loss while connected, hidden hotspots, failed Bluetooth pairing, audio dropouts, call problems, and 5G drain. Samsung documents compatibility profiles, hotspot visibility, hidden-network, and frequency-band checks: Samsung One UI troubleshooting.
A missing Bluetooth device can reflect an incompatible profile, missing companion app, stale pairing record, accessory firmware, car limitations, or the phone update. Try these in order:
- Forget and re-pair the accessory; restart both devices.
- Update accessory firmware and test another accessory.
- Reset only network connections through Settings → General management → Reset → Reset Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings (wording varies by One UI version and region).
- Test Safe mode if a VPN, automation, networking, or battery app is installed.
Camera and Gallery complaints
Status: Mixed and often preference-related. Reports include soft or oversharpened processing, inconsistent lenses, camera crashes, slow lens switching, heat during extended use, and changed Gallery behavior. S24 Ultra telephoto behavior is model-specific; dissatisfaction with one photo is not proof of a defect.
For a meaningful comparison, use the same scene, lighting, lens, zoom, mode, firmware, and original files. Compare another S24 of the same model and build where possible. A camera and flashlight failing together, or a camera that fails in Safe mode, is a service case.

Status: Reported; some apparent changes are intentional. Track keyboard failures, delayed touch, dropped animations, brightness or vivid-mode changes, flicker, dead pixels, touch dead zones, and charging information changes separately.

One UI can move controls deliberately. Samsung documents that One UI 7 moved lock-screen contact information to Settings → Lock Screen and AOD → Contact information: Samsung troubleshooting documentation.
- Take a screenshot: a defect visible in it may be software-rendered; one absent from it may be physical.
- Run Samsung Members touch diagnostics and test Safe mode.
- Remove a cracked, lifting, or unusually thick screen protector and test touch sensitivity.
App crashes, calls, audio, and accessories
Track each failing app separately by name, version, install source, Android version, account, and developer acknowledgement. Samsung recommends updating through Google Play and Galaxy Store and notes that apps written for older Android versions may fail on newer software: Samsung app troubleshooting.

- Restart, verify permissions, and reinstall if necessary.
- Test another account or accessory.
- Contact the developer when only that app fails.
Call drops, VoLTE or Wi‑Fi calling, microphone, speaker, USB-audio, and Galaxy Buds problems require carrier, accessory, and app-version fields. A failure limited to one carrier or accessory is not automatically a Samsung-wide defect.
USB, Auto Blocker, and privacy-related behavior
Samsung’s firmware notes say Auto Blocker at maximum restrictions can block USB devices except for charging. That can look like a failed port, missing file transfer, or Android Auto permission problem: S24 firmware notes. Also check employer, school, carrier, Knox, or work-profile policies before changing security settings.
Evidence-first recovery checklist
- Back up important files and save screenshots, battery graphs, error messages, build numbers, and app versions.
- Restart; for a force reboot, hold Volume Down + Power/Side for about 10 seconds until the Samsung logo appears. Samsung says the battery should be at least 5%; if fully drained, charge for at least 15 minutes: Samsung recovery guidance.
- Install pending Samsung, Google Play, Galaxy Store, app, accessory, and vehicle updates.
- Test the suspected cable, charger, car, network, or accessory independently.
- Check storage, memory, battery usage, and Safe mode.
- Clear the affected app’s cache and reset only the relevant connection.
- Run Samsung Members diagnostics and submit an error report with logs.
- Factory-reset only after backup and only when the problem is system-wide. A reset erases data, does not repair physical damage, may not fix a later firmware or app regression, and can destroy useful evidence.
When to seek Samsung service
- Idle overheating, swelling, smoke, chemical smell, or repeated uncontrolled shutdowns.
- Extreme repeatable drain after app and system isolation.
- Charging failure with multiple known-good chargers and cables, or a loose or damaged USB-C port.
- Camera and flashlight failure together.
- Touch dead zones that remain in Safe mode.
- Cellular service failure across locations, networks, or SIM tests.
- Suspected liquid or impact damage.
- A fault that survives a clean reset and occurs across multiple accessories or networks.
Use Samsung Support or an authorized service center: Samsung Support and Samsung service. Bring the model, build, screenshots, reproduction steps, and diagnostic results.
Should you keep, repair, or replace an S24?
Continuing to use the phone is generally reasonable when the symptom is cosmetic or preference-related, disappears after an app update or restart, occurs only with one accessory or vehicle, and the phone stays cool at idle with stable charging. Repair is the sensible path for safety symptoms or repeatable hardware failures. Compare repair cost with current value, remaining software support, warranty status, and how essential Android Auto, camera, gaming, or cellular reliability is. Do not replace an otherwise healthy S24 solely because of one unresolved software report.
