Scan QR code is a built-in Galaxy shortcut that opens a dedicated scanner. You can also scan codes with the Camera app: open Camera, choose PHOTO mode, and point the viewfinder at the code. Before opening any result, check where its link leads.
What “Scan QR code” does on a Samsung Galaxy
The shortcut opens a scanner window so your phone can read a QR code and display its contents, such as a website address. It is separate from the decision to open that result: review the displayed destination before tapping it.

Samsung documents two built-in ways to scan on a Galaxy phone or tablet: the Quick settings shortcut and the Camera app. The exact screens and available options can vary by model, software, and app version. Samsung Support: Ways to scan a QR code on your Galaxy phone or tablet; Samsung Service Korea: Galaxy camera QR code instructions.
Scan a QR code from Quick settings
- Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to open the Quick settings panel.
- Tap Scan QR code.
- Point the scanner window at the QR code and wait for the result.
Samsung says the scanner window may also let you turn on the flashlight or open Gallery. The options visible can depend on the device and software.

Scan with the Camera app
- Open Camera.
- Select PHOTO mode.
- Point the viewfinder at the QR code and wait for the phone to recognize it.
If the Camera app does not recognize codes, open Camera settings and turn on Scan QR codes. Menu names and paths can differ by model or software version; Samsung’s support instructions provide the documented Camera method, but do not establish one settings path for every Galaxy device.
Why the shortcut or scanner may look different
Samsung notes that feature names, entry points, and screens can vary with the Galaxy model, software, and app version. If you cannot find Scan QR code in Quick settings, try the Camera method. If neither route works, check that your device software and Camera app are up to date, then consult the support information for your specific model.

QR codes may also appear in setup flows. Samsung documents using a QR code with Smart Switch when setting up a new Galaxy device; other apps may provide their own scanning steps, so follow the instructions shown in that app.
Check the destination before opening it
A QR scan reveals information; it does not prove that a link is safe. The Federal Trade Commission warns that scammers can use QR codes to direct people to spoofed sites or malware. Inspect the displayed URL for misspellings or swapped letters, and be especially cautious with codes in unexpected emails or text messages. The FTC also warns that scammers have covered legitimate parking-meter codes with their own. FTC: Scammers hide harmful links in QR codes to steal your information; FTC: See a QR code parked somewhere? Don’t scan it…yet!.

Scanning a code is not the same as making a payment
Ordinary QR scanning can display a link or other information; it does not automatically mean a payment will happen. Samsung announced QR payments through Camera or Quick Panel for selected Samsung Pay-compatible devices in India in October 2021, subject to the software requirements at that time. That announcement is historical and region-specific, not a current compatibility list for Galaxy devices worldwide. Samsung Newsroom India: QR payments via Camera and Quick Panel.
