Samsung’s listed display specifications show the same size and resolution, with the M36 offering the higher refresh rate. A higher refresh rate can make supported motion and scrolling appear smoother, but specifications alone do not establish overall performance or gaming results. Likewise, the M36’s 8MP ultrawide has more pixels than the M17’s 5MP unit; that does not by itself prove better-looking photos.

What is the price difference?
Samsung’s India launch prices provide a like-for-like comparison for the 8GB/128GB configurations: the M36 launched at ₹17,999 and the M17 at ₹15,499, a ₹2,500 difference. These are launch figures, not verified current selling prices. Samsung’s M36 6GB/128GB launch price of ₹16,499 included a ₹1,000 instant bank discount; its 8GB/256GB variant launched at ₹20,999. The M17’s 4GB/128GB launch price was ₹12,499 net of a special launch offer, while its 6GB/128GB version launched at ₹13,999.

Samsung announced M36 sales would start on 12 July 2025 and M17 sales on 13 October 2025. To judge what each costs now, compare the same RAM and storage configuration, seller, and offer conditions on the day you buy. A price that includes a bank discount or a one-time launch offer is not directly comparable to an unrestricted price.

Which one should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy M36 if
- You want the higher listed refresh rate: 120Hz rather than 90Hz.
- You prefer the higher-resolution ultrawide camera specification: 8MP rather than 5MP.
- The current price gap for matching configurations is acceptable to you.
Choose the Galaxy M17 if
- You want to prioritize a lower price, after checking current like-for-like offers.
- A 90Hz display and a 5MP ultrawide meet your needs.
- You value its stated software-support window, including the security-update validity date shown on Samsung’s specifications page.
Both phones list a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery and a 50MP OIS main camera. Those shared headline specifications do not establish equal battery life or equal camera results in real use. Samsung lists Exynos 1380 for the M36 and Exynos 1330 for the M17, but chipset names alone are not independent speed measurements.
Software support and durability details
Samsung describes six generations of Android or OS upgrades and six years of security updates for both phones. The M17 specifications page gives 30 September 2031 as the security-update validity date and notes that software-release timing can change. Treat the support statements as Samsung’s plans rather than a promise of specific update delivery dates.
