To create a folder on a Samsung Galaxy, drag one app icon onto another on the Home screen or Apps screen, then name the folder. You can add more apps, customize its color, and remove apps without uninstalling them.
Create a folder on the Home screen
- Go to the Home screen.
- Touch and hold an app icon, drag it on top of another app icon, and release. The two apps are grouped in a new folder.
- Enter a folder name and confirm it on the keyboard if prompted. The control wording can vary by device and software version.
Create a folder on the Apps screen
- From the Home screen, swipe up to open the Apps screen.
- Touch and hold one app icon, drag it onto another app icon, and release.
- Name the folder if prompted, then confirm.

Add apps and customize a folder
Add apps
Open the folder and tap its Add or plus control. Select the apps you want and confirm. Depending on the interface, you can also drag additional app icons into the folder.

Change the folder color
Open the folder and use its color palette or color control. Samsung’s regional Galaxy S26 instructions also describe opacity controls, but available appearance settings depend on the device and software version. See Samsung Australia’s Galaxy S26 folder guide for that interface.

Enlarge a Home screen folder where supported
Samsung’s One UI 7 guidance describes enlarging a Home screen folder from 1×1 to 2×2. This is optional, not a universal folder feature, and it may be unavailable if there is not enough surrounding space. Samsung notes that features can vary by model, software version, and region; see its One UI 7 Home screen guide.
If dragging apps together does not work
Some Galaxy interfaces offer a selection-based alternative. Samsung’s Australian Galaxy S26 guide describes touching and holding an app, choosing Select, choosing the other apps, and tapping Create folder in the upper-right area. Those labels and steps are specific to the Australia-variant guide; if they do not appear on your device, use the drag method or check Samsung support for your region.

Move a folder or add it to Home
On the Apps screen, you can drag a folder to reposition it. Samsung also describes adding an Apps screen folder to the Home screen; this creates a Home screen shortcut while the Apps screen folder remains. If both copies are present, they are separate placements.

Remove one app without uninstalling it
Open the folder and move or remove the app from it using the available control. The app returns to its original location on the Home or Apps screen; this action does not uninstall it.

Delete the folder
Deleting a folder removes its container and returns its apps to the Apps screen. If a folder appears on both the Home and Apps screens, delete each copy separately. Samsung explains this behavior in its Galaxy Z TriFold Home screen guide.

The basic drag-one-app-onto-another method is also documented in Samsung’s older Galaxy S9+ manual, but menus and customization options are not identical across Galaxy models. Follow the labels displayed on your device, especially for optional features such as folder resizing, color, or opacity.
