Swipe removes the PIN but still requires a swipe; None removes the screen lock. Menu names and available choices can vary by device, software version, and region.

If protecting private information matters, keeping a secure lock such as a PIN, pattern, or password is the safer choice. Samsung recommends a secure screen lock to help protect information on a Galaxy device (Samsung US Support).

How to turn off the screen PIN
- Open Settings.
- Tap Lock screen and AOD. Depending on the device or regional software, this may appear as Lock screen.
- Tap Screen lock type.
- Enter the current PIN, password, or pattern if prompted.
- Choose Swipe to retain a swipe gesture, or None to remove the screen lock entirely if that choice appears.
- Confirm the change if prompted, then lock the screen and test the new unlock behavior.
These are common menu labels, not a guaranteed route for every Galaxy. Samsung’s current US guide uses Lock screen and AOD; its Australia guide uses Lock Screen. Older devices may instead show Lock screen and security > Screen lock type (Samsung US Support; Samsung Australia Support; Galaxy S9+ manual).
What changes when you remove a secure lock
Biometrics and secure-lock features
Fingerprint setup uses a screen-lock credential, and Samsung says the phone may ask you to set a secure lock if none is configured (Samsung US Support). Biometrics or features that depend on a secure credential may therefore be disabled or require setup again. Samsung’s Galaxy S9+ manual specifically says changing to Swipe or None deletes biometric data on that model; that older, model-specific behavior should not be assumed for every current Galaxy.

Samsung says Extend Unlock and Secure lock settings require a secure screen lock. If you remove that lock, expect those features to be unavailable while no secure lock is configured (Samsung US Support).

- Search Settings for Screen lock type or Lock screen if the menus do not match these labels.
- If None is not offered, choose Swipe if available.
- If you cannot enter the current PIN, these settings steps do not bypass it. Samsung’s guidance covers changing a lock after authenticating, not a universal way to recover access from a forgotten PIN; consult official guidance for your model.
This procedure changes the screen unlock PIN only. It does not turn off a SIM PIN, change a Samsung account password, or remove a Secure Folder or app-specific code. The Dynamic Lock Screen wallpaper setting is separate from the screen-lock method.
