Temporary app trouble, outdated software, background activity or low available memory are reasonable first things to check. Work through the reversible steps below, then use Safe Mode or diagnostics to narrow down persistent problems.
Why does the Galaxy Camera app take longer to open?
A slow launch is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Samsung lists temporary software issues, software that needs updating, background apps and limited available memory as possible contributors to camera trouble or broader device slowdowns. Insufficient storage and hardware faults are also possible causes of camera launch errors, but neither is established by a delay alone. The exact cause depends on the phone and what changed recently. Menu names and locations can vary by Galaxy model and software version, so treat the paths below as common routes rather than universal labels.

Try these checks in order
1. Restart the phone
Restart your Galaxy, then open Camera and see whether the delay remains. A restart is a simple way to check for a temporary software problem; Samsung recommends restarting for temporary errors and device slowdowns.

2. Check for Camera and system updates
Look in the phone’s Settings > Software update screen for a system update. Also check Camera’s settings or its About Camera screen for an available app update, if your model provides that option. Install available updates and test Camera again. Samsung’s instructions include updating both the device software and Camera where available; the precise screens differ across models and software versions.
3. Reduce background load
Close apps you are not using, then try Camera again. On supported software, Samsung’s suggested memory check is Settings > Device care > Memory > Clean now. Device care labels and availability vary. Samsung identifies background apps and limited available memory as possible contributors to Galaxy slowdowns; this check does not establish that memory was the cause.

4. Use Safe Mode to check for downloaded-app involvement
Safe Mode disables downloaded apps, making it useful for checking whether one of them is involved. Follow Samsung’s model-specific steps to start the phone in Safe Mode, then launch Camera. If the delay goes away in Safe Mode, a downloaded app may be contributing; the test does not identify which app is responsible. Restart normally to leave Safe Mode, then consider whether a recently installed or updated app could be related. Samsung explains the test in its Camera app troubleshooting guide.

If the simpler checks do not help, clearing Camera’s cache is a lower-impact step where the option appears. Samsung says clearing an app cache removes temporary files and may help an app that is slow or malfunctioning. A typical route is Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage > Clear cache, though labels can differ. See Samsung Canada’s guide to clearing Galaxy app cache and data.

You can also reset Camera settings or clear Camera app data if the delay continues. Clearing data restores Camera settings to their defaults, so you may need to set your preferences again. Samsung says this does not delete saved photos or videos. Because it changes the app’s state, try this after the reversible checks rather than as the first step. Instructions and available options may vary by device.
6. Run a camera diagnostic if available
If Camera still takes unusually long to open—or also crashes, shows errors or fails to work—open Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics > Camera, if Samsung Members and that diagnostic are supported and installed on your device. The test can screen camera function, but it is not a guarantee of an exact fault diagnosis. Samsung describes diagnostics and possible service needs in its guide to a Camera that will not open.

When to contact Samsung service
Consider professional inspection if the delay persists after these checks, particularly if the camera also crashes, displays errors or does not work. Samsung notes that the camera module or internal circuitry may need attention. A diagnostic result can help screen the device, but persistent symptoms may still require service inspection.
