It is not a top choice for buyers seeking maximum gaming performance, easy upgrades or an all-day heavy-workload machine away from an outlet. Since it launched in the US in January 2024, check the exact configuration, condition, warranty and price before buying; the available sources do not establish a current 2026 street price. Samsung’s US launch announcement confirms its launch-era context.
What is the Galaxy Book4 Ultra?
The Book4 Ultra is the performance-oriented member of Samsung’s Galaxy Book4 family, above the standard Book4 and Book4 Pro lines. It pairs a 16-inch touchscreen laptop with a dedicated Nvidia GeForce RTX Laptop GPU, making it more capable for graphics-heavy creative work and gaming than an integrated-graphics ultrabook. Its thin design, however, is not the same proposition as a thicker gaming laptop built around cooling and sustained GPU power.
It runs Windows 11 and has an aluminum chassis, a backlit keyboard with a numeric keypad and Samsung software features for compatible Galaxy devices. The word “Ultra” describes Samsung’s position in its laptop range; it does not guarantee desktop-like graphics performance.
Specifications vary by configuration and market
Samsung’s global specifications describe several possible configurations, not one universal model. Check the model number and listing details: CPU, GPU, memory and storage combinations can differ by market and retailer.

These specifications are drawn from Samsung’s Galaxy Book4 Ultra specifications and its global launch release. They establish advertised capabilities, not independent measurements of brightness, color accuracy, battery life, noise or performance.
Is the display good for creative work?
The display is a key reason to consider the Book4 Ultra. Its 16:10 layout offers more vertical workspace than a typical 16:9 screen, while 2880 × 1800 resolution gives detail for photo editing, design, video timelines and everyday work. AMOLED brings deep blacks and high contrast; touch support and a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz make scrolling and direct interaction feel responsive.
Samsung specifies 400 nits and 120% DCI-P3 color volume. Color volume is not the same as a measured color-accuracy result, however. Wide-gamut color can help with suitable creative workflows, but unmanaged content may look oversaturated. For color-critical work, look for independent measurements and consider calibration rather than assuming the panel is professionally accurate out of the box.
The screen is glossy, which can make reflections distracting in a bright office or outdoors. It is also a conventional laptop rather than a 360-degree convertible, so touch is useful for quick interaction but does not turn the computer into a tablet. As with other OLED displays, prolonged static content at high brightness is a reason to use sensible screen and power settings; this is a long-term ownership consideration, not evidence that a particular unit has burn-in.
How much performance should you expect?
Everyday work and CPU-heavy tasks
Either processor option is aimed at demanding Windows productivity: office applications, many browser tabs, development, photo work and multitasking. The Core Ultra 9 185H is the flagship CPU cited in Samsung’s business specification sheet. The available specifications do not establish comparative benchmark scores, export times or sustained performance for each configuration, so a short benchmark result or the processor name alone cannot tell you how a particular unit will behave during a long render or compile.
For workloads lasting many minutes, fan noise, temperature, power mode and whether the laptop is plugged in can affect performance. Buyers who depend on repeatable render, compile or virtual-machine performance should seek results from the exact CPU/GPU configuration and test conditions rather than generalizing from another Book4 Ultra review unit.
RTX 4050 versus RTX 4070
The RTX 4050 configuration is the lower-cost route to Nvidia acceleration for applications that benefit from a dedicated GPU, but it is the less convincing choice for demanding new games. The RTX 4070 version—with 8GB VRAM—is the more sensible option for heavier GPU-assisted video work, 3D applications, CUDA-dependent software and gaming, if the price premium is reasonable.
Both are Laptop GPUs, not desktop cards. The thin chassis also makes cooling and sustained power limits important. One secondary listing describes an RTX 4070 Book4 Ultra configuration as an 80W GPU, but that figure is configuration-specific and should not be applied to every unit without verification. When comparing it with a gaming laptop, compare sustained performance and power limits, not just the “RTX 4070” name.

It can play games, but the Book4 Ultra is better understood as a creator and productivity laptop that can game than as a gaming-first machine. The 2880 × 1800 panel has many more pixels than a 1080p display, and that makes demanding games harder to run at native resolution—particularly with ray tracing enabled. DLSS can help in supported games, but results depend on the title and settings.
The RTX 4070 model is the more practical gaming configuration; the RTX 4050 is better suited to moderate gaming than to pushing demanding titles at high settings and high frame rates. A thicker gaming laptop can offer more cooling headroom and sustained graphics performance, often at the cost of more weight, fan noise and a less understated design. The available evidence does not provide comparable frame-rate tests for specific games, so no universal performance number is warranted.
How long does the battery last?
Samsung specifies a 76Wh battery, but capacity is not a runtime result. Battery life will vary with the CPU and GPU configuration, brightness, refresh rate, Windows and Samsung power modes, and whether the discrete GPU is active. Web browsing, video playback, editing and gaming impose very different loads; GPU-heavy work and gaming are best treated as plugged-in tasks if consistent performance matters.
No test methodology or workload-specific runtime results are established here. Do not rely on one battery figure from a different configuration as a promise for your use. For a used or open-box machine, check battery health as well as the advertised capacity.

At approximately 1.86kg and 16.5mm thick in Samsung’s global specification, the Book4 Ultra is relatively slim for a 16-inch laptop with dedicated graphics. It is still a large computer to carry every day, and its 140W adapter adds to the travel load. The form factor suits someone who wants a substantial screen and discrete GPU without the bulk associated with many gaming laptops.

Those dimensions do not establish lid rigidity, hinge stability, keyboard-deck flex, surface temperatures or fan noise. These are hands-on qualities that can differ in importance by use: a quiet office matters more to meeting-heavy work, while sustained cooling matters more to long renders or gaming. If buying clearance or used stock, confirm the charger is included and inspect the unit’s condition and return terms.
Keyboard, touchpad, webcam and speakers
Keyboard and touchpad
The official specification lists a backlit Pro keyboard with a numeric keypad. That layout can help with spreadsheets and number entry, though a full-size keypad can affect the spacing of the main typing area. Key feel, arrow-key usability, touchpad click behavior and palm rejection require hands-on assessment; the component specification alone does not establish them.
Webcam and microphones
The listed webcam is 2MP/1080p, accompanied by dual microphones. That resolution is adequate on paper for ordinary video calls, but it does not establish image quality in dim rooms, exposure handling or noise suppression. People who appear on frequent client or professional calls should assess the camera in their actual lighting or budget for an external webcam.
Speakers
Samsung specifies AKG quad speakers with Dolby Atmos. The branding and speaker count do not establish loudness, bass, vocal clarity or how spatial effects sound in practice; use headphones or external speakers if audio quality is critical to your work.

The port mix is a practical strength: two Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, microSD and a headset/microphone jack mean many users can connect common accessories without a hub. Photographers may value the microSD slot, while USB-A remains convenient for older peripherals. Thunderbolt 4 can support compatible docks and displays.
Samsung says the HDMI connection supports up to 8K at 60Hz or 5K at 120Hz. Actual output depends on the display, cable, adapter, application and system configuration. If you plan a multi-monitor desk, verify your exact monitor and dock setup rather than treating the headline HDMI modes as a guarantee for every connection.
Do Samsung ecosystem features make it a better buy?
For a Galaxy phone or tablet owner, the laptop can add useful continuity features such as Quick Share, Multi Control, Second Screen and other cross-device functions. Samsung’s US launch material describes connections across Galaxy PCs, phones, tablets and Buds. These features may make routine file sharing or using a tablet as a second screen more convenient, but they are a bonus rather than a substitute for choosing the right laptop hardware.

Compatibility depends on the specific Galaxy device, Android and One UI versions, Windows version, installed Samsung apps, accounts, permissions and region. Samsung’s business specification sheet notes requirements for Link to Windows involving Windows 10 or later and supported Galaxy devices with specified software. If a feature will not connect, update the relevant Samsung apps through the Microsoft Store or Samsung utilities, check the feature’s device requirements, confirm accounts where required, and enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
If you use an iPhone or do not own compatible Samsung devices, these integrations are unlikely to justify paying extra for this laptop.
What should you know about upgrades and long-term ownership?
The available specifications do not establish RAM soldering, the number of SSD slots, Wi-Fi card replaceability or the ease of battery and display repairs across all regional revisions. Do not assume memory or storage can be upgraded based on the product family name. Verify the exact model through reliable teardown or service documentation before buying on the expectation of future upgrades.
Samsung’s US product pages refer to genuine parts and certified technicians, but that alone does not establish which parts are user-replaceable. For an older-generation, used, refurbished or clearance unit, check remaining warranty, seller and condition, return policy, battery health, SSD health, display condition and whether the original charger is included. A low price is less compelling if the machine has no usable warranty or a return window too short to check it.

The Book4 Ultra’s case is strongest when its display, port selection, relatively slim design and Galaxy integration are more valuable to you than maximum GPU output. A MacBook Pro or gaming laptop may be a better fit, but only when its operating-system and workload trade-offs suit your applications.
Which configuration should you buy?
- For a discounted creator and general-purpose laptop: Prefer an RTX 4070 model with at least 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD, if available at a price that makes sense against newer options.
- For large media projects, virtual machines or heavy multitasking: Consider 64GB RAM and 2TB storage if the exact regional configuration exists and the premium is justified. Confirm upgrade options rather than assuming you can add memory later.
- For lighter GPU work or moderate gaming: An RTX 4050 configuration may suffice if it is substantially cheaper than the RTX 4070 version.
- For GPU-first gaming: Choose a thicker gaming laptop instead of paying extra for the Book4 Ultra’s screen and slim chassis.
There is no verified 2026 street price in the available listings. A Tom’s Guide review cited a $2,399 starting price at launch, while a Samsung business MSRP document listed $3,099.99 for a different high-end configuration; the figures refer to different configurations or pricing contexts and are not directly comparable.
