To open the back of a Samsung Galaxy A12, remove the SIM tray, carefully release the plastic rear cover with plastic opening tools, then turn the cover aside and disconnect its lock-button/fingerprint-sensor flex before removing it fully. First check the model: the documented procedure is for the Galaxy A12, including model SM-A125F, and construction can vary between A12 variants.
Samsung’s regional support page for the SM-A125F lists repair documentation. Compare the model number on your phone with the guide before starting.

What you need before opening the phone
- A plastic phone-opening pick or plastic disassembly stick, plus a nylon spudger if available. The model-specific iFixit Galaxy A12 disassembly guide recommends plastic tools when possible.
- A clear, well-lit work surface where you can set down small parts and support the cover without pulling its cable.
Power the phone off before beginning. Do not force the cover or substitute forceful prying with metal tools; plastic tools are the recommended approach in the cited disassembly instructions.
How to open the back of a Samsung A12
- Remove the SIM tray. Eject it and set it aside before trying to release the housing. The iFixit guide lists tray removal as the first housing step.
- Release the rear-cover edge gradually. Insert a plastic pick or disassembly stick at the seam and work around the edge with shallow, careful movements. Avoid pushing deeply into the phone or levering hard against one spot. The back is plastic; the repair instructions describe releasing it around the edges with plastic tools.
- Pause when the cover loosens. Do not pull the cover straight away from the phone. It remains connected by a flex cable.
- Turn the cover aside like a book. Lift and rotate it gently to the left, keeping the cable slack rather than stretched.
- Disconnect the flex before separating the cover. Disconnect the lock-button/fingerprint-sensor flex from the main board, then remove the cover. The iFixit guide calls this the lock-button flex; Samsung-attributed training material reproduced by ManualsLib describes the fingerprint-sensor connection.
If the cover resists, stop and reassess rather than increasing force. Do not add heat based on these instructions: the cited model-specific sources do not establish a required heating step or temperature.

Choose tools and next steps based on the situation
| Situation | Practical choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cover releases with light, gradual pressure | Use plastic picks or a plastic disassembly stick | The model-specific disassembly guide recommends plastic tools where possible. |
| Cover will not release without force | Stop rather than pry harder; seek qualified repair help if needed | Force can damage the cover or components, and the cited instructions do not establish a safe force threshold. |
| Battery looks swollen | Do not continue; contact a qualified repair provider | Samsung-attributed Galaxy A12 repair-training material warns that a swollen battery can ignite and cause injury. |
The repair-training material also says to disconnect the battery before voltage-sensitive work inside the device. Opening the cover alone is not a battery-replacement procedure; do not proceed into internal work unless you have the appropriate repair instructions and experience.
Where to check model-specific documentation
Samsung’s support page lists an SM-A125F repair guide dated January 13, 2021; availability and documentation can depend on region. Samsung Parts also hosts a Galaxy A12 service guide dated July 11, 2024, with links to parts and a self-repair assistant. Those pages do not establish that a particular part is currently in stock or compatible with every A12 variant. For reproduced repair-training instructions, see the ManualsLib Galaxy A12 manual; ManualsLib is a secondary host, and the material is attributed there to Samsung Electronics America.
