What students saw at Samsung’s South Carolina factory
The visit brought students onto the Newberry factory floor, where Samsung makes washing machines in the United States. South Carolina Department of Education Superintendent Ellen Weaver joined the group. Students toured the facility and spoke with staff about how workers and technology contribute to manufacturing.

In a statement, Cordell Hull, Samsung Electronics America executive vice president and head of U.S. public affairs, said, “The workforce will be one of the defining factors in the next chapter of American manufacturing,” and described giving students a chance to see advanced manufacturing and speak with workers as an investment in the future workforce. Samsung’s apprenticeship pathway toward tool-making
Samsung presented its Mold Shop Apprenticeship Program as one route from maintenance technician work toward tool-making careers. The company says the program works with the U.S. Department of Labor and South Carolina technical colleges.
The pathway connects a maintenance role with the development of specialized tool-making skills. Samsung’s account does not specify eligibility, program length, wages, credentials earned or current application details, so students interested in the route would need to confirm those particulars with Samsung or the participating institutions.
