From there, you can choose panels, edit the Apps panel, and adjust the handle’s placement and appearance. Samsung notes that availability and exact settings vary by device model and software version.
What Samsung Edge panels do
Edge panels are shortcuts that slide out from the side of a Galaxy screen. Depending on the panels available on your device, they can provide quick access to apps, contacts, tools, and other content. You open a panel by swiping inward from its screen-edge handle.

Samsung says the feature may not be available on every device model or software version. Menu names and options can also vary by model, carrier, and software release. If the paths below do not match your screen, look for Edge panels under Display in Settings.

Turn Edge panels on and open them
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Edge panels and switch the feature on.
- Swipe inward from the handle at the edge of the screen to open a panel.
If you do not see the Edge panels setting, your device or software may not support it. Samsung’s setup guidance is available in its Edge panel guide and US Edge panels support article.

Choose which panels appear
- Open an Edge panel by swiping inward from its handle.
- Tap the panel’s Settings gear.
- Select the panels you want to use and deselect those you do not need.
Samsung Support US says you can select up to ten panels. The choices available depend on your device; some additional panels may be downloadable from Galaxy Store, and Samsung says some may require payment or may not be available for download on every device. Compare panels by what they provide and whether they are available on your phone or tablet.
Edit the Apps panel and create App pairs
To choose or reorder apps in the Apps panel, open Edge panel settings and tap Edit under the Apps panel. Add available apps, remove entries, or drag them into the order you prefer.

On supported devices, App pairs let you open two apps together in a multitasking view. This depends on the device’s multitasking options and app compatibility: Samsung notes that some apps do not support split-screen view, so an App pair is not guaranteed to work with every combination.
Find Smart select on newer software
On devices running One UI 6.1.1 or later, Samsung says Smart select is integrated into the Apps panel rather than offered as a separate Edge panel. If you are following older instructions that tell you to enable a standalone Smart select panel, check the Apps panel instead. Samsung’s Canada guidance, updated April 29, 2026, describes this change: Smart select on Galaxy devices.

Adjust the Edge panel handle
- Open Settings > Display > Edge panels.
- Tap Handle.
- Adjust the available controls, such as position, size, width, color or style, and transparency.
Some software versions also offer options such as locking the handle’s position or enabling vibration. Depending on your device, you may be able to move the handle to the opposite side in settings or drag it there directly. If it will not move, check whether its position is locked. The precise controls vary across devices and software.

Go to Settings > Display > Edge panels and switch the feature off. You can turn it back on from the same setting if you want to use it again.
