If they were deleted, the right recovery path depends on where they were saved: Google, a Samsung Cloud backup, Contacts’ Recycle Bin, an old phone or Smart Switch backup, or a SIM or SD card that still contains them. Samsung’s documented options rely on an existing copy; they cannot recreate contacts when no copy remains.
First, check whether the contacts are hidden
Contacts can seem to be missing when the app is showing only one account. Open the Contacts app, open its navigation menu, and choose All contacts or the specific account where the contacts should be stored. Check that the expected Google or Samsung account is signed in, too.

Recover contacts saved to a Google account
Turn Google contact sync back on
If the contacts belong to Google, check that the correct Google account is enabled for contact sync. Samsung UK’s documented phone path is Contacts > Menu > Manage contacts > Sync contacts. Turn on the relevant Google account and tap Sync. The phone needs an internet connection, and the contacts must be associated with that account.

If the Google contacts were deleted
On a computer, sign in to Google Contacts with the account that held the contacts. Samsung’s current guidance describes two options: use Undo changes to choose an available restore point from within the last 30 days, or check Trash and recover entries still available there. The 30-day period is the window Samsung gives for the Undo changes procedure, not a guarantee that every deleted contact can be recovered.

Restore a Samsung Cloud backup
Use this route if a Samsung Cloud backup from the relevant device includes the contacts. On the Galaxy phone, open Settings > Samsung account > Samsung Cloud > Restore data. Choose the backup for the source device, select the contacts or other data you want to restore, and confirm. Labels and available options can differ by device.
Samsung Cloud does not sync contacts and calendars set up with a Google account. Supported backup items can also vary by country, carrier, and model, so check the options shown on your phone. Check Samsung Contacts’ Recycle Bin
If you deleted the contacts in Samsung Contacts, open the app’s navigation menu and choose Recycle Bin. Select the records you want and tap Restore. This works only for contacts still available in that bin. Samsung’s guidance does not specify how long deleted contacts remain there.

Use an old phone, Smart Switch backup, or existing card
Transfer from an old phone or Smart Switch backup
If the contacts are still on an old phone or included in a usable Smart Switch backup, Smart Switch can transfer or restore that existing data. It is a transfer route, not a way to recover records that are absent from the source and its backups. Samsung describes Smart Switch in its Galaxy backup and restore guide.

If a SIM or SD card already holds the contacts, open Contacts > Manage contacts > Import or export contacts > Import. Select the source card and contacts, then choose where to save them. You cannot import contacts from a card that does not contain them.

Samsung cautions that SIM cards are not designed for storing contacts and have limited capacity. Its backup and restore instructions cover card imports.

If no recovery route has a copy
Check each account and source that could contain the records: Google sync and Google Contacts recovery, Samsung Cloud, the Contacts Recycle Bin, an old phone or Smart Switch backup, and any SIM or SD card that may store them. If the contacts are absent from all of these, Samsung’s documented instructions do not provide a way to recreate them. Avoid tools that promise recovery without identifying a surviving copy of the contacts.
