You can restore a Samsung Cloud device backup to a compatible Galaxy phone or tablet, but Samsung does not provide individual device-backup files for download from its cloud portal. First identify whether the missing item was in a device backup, synced through an app, or synced from Gallery to OneDrive; each has a different recovery route.
First identify where the missing data was stored
Samsung Cloud is not necessarily a copy of every file on a Galaxy device. Before starting, sign in to the Samsung account you used on the original device and check what backup or sync records are available.

- Device-backup data: Phone settings and supported categories may be restored to a compatible Galaxy device.
- Synced app data: Data synchronized by a supported app is generally accessed through that app on a compatible device. A cloud-portal summary of synced apps is not the same as a set of downloadable files.
- Gallery photos and videos: If Gallery sync with a personal OneDrive account was enabled, look for the synced items by signing in to that OneDrive account on another device. If sync was not enabled, this route does not establish that the Gallery items were backed up.
Samsung’s instructions for backup categories and menus can vary by country, phone model, and software version. The categories shown on your device are the practical check of what is available.
Restore a Samsung Cloud device backup
On a Galaxy phone or tablet, Samsung’s US instructions give this path:

- Open Settings.
- Tap your Samsung account name.
- Tap Samsung Cloud.
- Tap Restore data.
- Select the backup you want, review the available categories, and follow the on-screen prompts.
Samsung also describes choosing Restore during initial setup of a new device. Labels and available options may differ across models and software versions. Check the backup date and the category list before proceeding so you know which data the restore can supply. Samsung Philippines notes that available backup data may vary with the operating system or phone version (Samsung Philippines support).
What kinds of data might be in a backup?
Samsung Philippines lists possible categories including phone and message history, contacts, calendar, clock, settings, Home screen data, apps, and voice recordings. This is not a guarantee that every category is present in every backup: coverage depends on the software and phone version, and the restore screen shows what is available for your device.

Can you download a Samsung Cloud backup to a computer?
Samsung Canada says individual device backups cannot be downloaded from the cloud portal; recovery requires syncing the backup to a compatible device. The portal may show summaries of synced apps, but that does not mean it contains downloadable app data files. Use the restore process on a compatible Galaxy device for a device backup, or open the relevant app on a compatible device for data that the app synced (Samsung Canada support).

Recover Gallery photos and videos
Samsung documents syncing Gallery with a personal OneDrive account. If you had enabled that sync, sign in to the same OneDrive account on another device and check for the synced photos and videos. Samsung’s OneDrive route applies to Gallery items that were synced; it is not a full phone backup or restore. Without prior Gallery sync, the OneDrive instructions do not confirm that those items exist there (Samsung US support).

If the backup or data does not appear
- Check the account: Make sure the device is signed in to the Samsung account associated with the backup or sync.
- Inspect the available backup: Confirm its date and which categories are listed under Restore data before expecting a particular item to return.
- Use the right route: Look in the relevant app for synced app data, or in the personal OneDrive account used for Gallery sync.
- Consider other backup locations: Samsung lists Smart Switch and Google One among Galaxy backup or restore methods. These are alternative routes, not a way to download Samsung Cloud device-backup files. Check whether you actually used one and what it included before relying on it (Samsung Singapore support).
How long does Samsung Cloud keep data?
Samsung Canada states that data stored in Samsung Cloud is deleted if the service has not been used for more than 12 months, and says advance notice is provided. This is a Canada-specific support statement, not a global retention rule; check the terms and notices that apply in your country (Samsung Canada support).
