Samsung Cloud backs up or syncs selected information from a Galaxy phone or tablet; it is not a universal file drive. Its available categories and settings vary by device, country, carrier, and software version. Also, Samsung Gallery’s OneDrive sync ended on September 30, 2026. Previously synced photos and videos remain in OneDrive, and Samsung says the OneDrive app’s Camera backup can still be used for new media.
What Samsung Cloud does—and what it does not do
Samsung Cloud is a Samsung-account service for backing up, restoring, and syncing selected data on Galaxy devices. Backup copies selected information so it can be restored, for example after a reset or during setup of another Galaxy device. Sync keeps supported information aligned across devices signed in to the same Samsung account.

It is not a general-purpose file drive for storing every file or accessing an unrestricted cloud folder. The categories available on your own device’s Samsung Cloud screen are the practical guide to what it can protect. Samsung says a Samsung account is required, and that supported functions vary by model and region. See Samsung Australia’s Samsung Cloud overview.
What can Samsung Cloud back up or sync?
Samsung Australia lists examples that may be available, including call and message history, contacts and calendar data saved on the device, clock data, selected settings, Samsung Health information, and Gallery media. Settings may include accessibility, ringtones, keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and display preferences. These are examples, not a promise that every category appears on every Galaxy device.

Check the categories and warnings on your device, since country, carrier, model, and software version affect availability. Details are in Samsung Australia’s list of backed-up data.
How do I back up and restore data to my Galaxy device?
Samsung’s support guidance directs users to Samsung Cloud settings on the device, where they can choose available sync, backup, or restore options. Menu names and paths differ between Galaxy models and One UI versions, so use the device’s Settings search for “Samsung Cloud” if the route below does not match your screen.

Samsung’s backup and restore guidance describes restoring after a reset or when setting up a Galaxy device. For moving data to a new device, Samsung also points to Smart Switch as a separate migration route; consult Samsung Smart Switch and the instructions for your particular devices.

How Samsung Cloud sync differs from backup
Sync is designed to match supported data between devices using the same Samsung account, rather than preserve a separate, untouched archive. Samsung India’s example is Samsung Notes: edit or delete a synced note on one device and the change is reflected on other synced devices. That makes sync useful for continuity, but a deletion can propagate too. See Samsung India’s explanation of Samsung Cloud sync.

Backup and restore instead provide a way to copy selected categories and recover them later, subject to what the device supports and what backup is available. Neither label should be taken to mean that all content on the phone is covered; inspect the list of categories before relying on it.
Samsung Gallery and OneDrive after September 30, 2026
Samsung Gallery’s integration with OneDrive for syncing photos and videos ended on September 30, 2026. Samsung Australia’s notice dated September 29, 2026 states, “The Service will no longer be available as of September 30th, 2026.” Samsung’s notices say media that had already synced remains stored in OneDrive and can be viewed in the OneDrive app. Samsung Japan’s support article, updated October 2, 2026, likewise directs users to the OneDrive app for media not moved before the integration ended.

This end date applies to the Samsung Gallery-to-OneDrive integration, not to the availability of previously synced files in OneDrive. For Samsung’s local notice and any region-specific details, see Samsung Australia’s Gallery sync notice, Samsung Japan’s OneDrive support guidance, and Samsung US support guidance.
Options for photos, device transfers, and general files
| Need | Relevant route | What it does and key distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Selected Galaxy settings and supported device information | Samsung Cloud | Provides backup, restore, or sync for categories offered on the device; it is not a universal file drive. |
| New photos and videos | OneDrive app Camera backup | Samsung Australia says the OneDrive app’s Camera backup can continue storing photos and videos. This is OneDrive app functionality, not continued Samsung Gallery integration. See Samsung Australia’s Camera backup guidance. |
| Photos and videos synced before the Gallery integration ended | OneDrive app | Samsung says those existing files remain in OneDrive and can be accessed through its app. |
| Moving data when changing Galaxy devices | Smart Switch | A separate Samsung-referenced device migration option; follow current, device-specific instructions. |
| Other files or content not listed in Samsung Cloud | Check the relevant app or storage service | Samsung Cloud’s device category list does not establish coverage for arbitrary files; confirm that the chosen service supports the file type and access you need. |
The right route depends on whether you need device recovery, live synchronization, photo backup, or a one-time transfer. Samsung’s support pages do not establish a universal head-to-head comparison between these services, so check each app’s account requirements, supported content, and availability in your region.

- Before following region-specific steps, read the current local Samsung notice and the instructions for your model and software version.
